Leuzinger High School, located in Lawndale, California, is gearing up for an exciting season of softball. With a dedicated coaching staff and a talented group of players, the Olympians are ready to make their mark on the field. We had the opportunity to speak with Coach Martin Jones to get a preview of what we can expect from the team this year. When asked about the overall goals for the team, Coach Jones shared that they are focused on continuing their growth from the past several years and ultimately winning their league. But the key to achieving these goals? Commitment. Commitment to working together as a team, being accountable for their actions, and putting in the hard work and effort necessary for success. There are several standout players to keep an eye on this season. Emily Gamboa, who plays shortstop, is described as an excellent player with the potential to play at the college level. Coach Jones also notes that she is the heart and soul of the team. Magaly Guillermo, the starting pitcher, is the ace and closer of the pitching staff. The Olympians have three captains this season: Mya Lopez, Emily Gamboa, and Tyler Lewis.
