As the high school baseball season approaches, fans of Granada Hills Charter are eagerly anticipating what this year's team has in store. With a strong lineup of returning players and a renewed focus on team chemistry and culture, Coach Matt Matuszak and the Granada Hills Charter baseball team have their sights set on winning a CIF Championship.
When asked about his goals for the season, Coach Matuszak speaks with determination and confidence. "Our key goal is to win a CIF Championship," he says. "We know we have the talent and potential to do so; it's just a matter of playing our best baseball and coming together as a team during the playoffs."
One of the players who will undoubtedly play a crucial role in the team's success is UCLA commit, Easton Hawk. The two-way player will be a force on both the mound and at the plate. Returning players Jackson Lyons and Diego Monreal also bring experience and talent to the team, with Monreal having been named an All-League center fielder last season.
But it's not just individual talent that will drive Granada Hills Charter to success this year. Coach Matuszak also emphasizes the importance of team cohesion and the little things that players do off the field to contribute to the team's culture.
"It's all about doing the little things right, even when no one is looking," he explains. "Our players take care of things without being asked and help to build a strong team dynamic."
This emphasis on team chemistry is highlighted by their team bonding outing to an Escape Room, which Coach Matuszak describes as a "great team chemistry team builder." Building a strong camaraderie off the field is just as important as building a strong team on the field, and the Granada Hills Charter team seems to understand that.
In addition to team bonding activities, the team also has an impressive schedule ahead of them. The Easton Tournament, a prestigious event that draws top high school baseball teams from around the country, is just one of the many challenges they will face this season. They have also been invited to the National Classic in April and are scheduled to play non-league games against top teams like J Serra. With such a competitive lineup of games, the Granada Hills Charter team will have the opportunity to showcase their skills and learn from tough opponents.
