Monte Vista High School, located in Danville, California, is well known for its success in various sports, including their football team. With the start of a new season, we spoke with Coach Mateo Miramontes, who has been coaching at MVHS for over ten years, about the team's upcoming season and what fans can expect from the Mustangs this year. Q: How has the team been preparing for the upcoming season? A: The team has been working hard throughout the off-season. We have been focusing on strength and endurance training to ensure that the players are physically prepared for the upcoming season. We have also been reviewing game tapes and analyzing our plays to make necessary adjustments. Q: What can we expect from the team this year in terms of gameplay and strategy? A: Our strategy this year is to have a balanced offense and defense. We have been working on developing a strong running game and improving our passing game. We also have a solid group of defenders who have been working on their tackling and coverage skills. Q: Who are some key players to watch out for this season? A: We have a strong senior class this year, with some standout players. Our quarterback, Alex Rodriguez, has been working hard in the off-season and has shown great improvement in his passing accuracy. Our running back, Marcus Garcia, is also a force to be reckoned with. He has shown incredible speed and agility on the field. Q: How has the team's chemistry been so far this year? A: The team's chemistry has been fantastic. We have a great mix of veteran players and new faces, but they have all come together as a cohesive unit. The seniors have been great leaders and have welcomed the underclassmen with open arms. We have also been emphasizing the importance of teamwork and how it takes every player to achieve success on the field. Q: Are there any particular games or opponents that the team is looking forward to playing? A: We are excited about every game on our schedule, but I would say our biggest rival is San Ramon Valley High School. We always have intense games against them, and the rivalry between our schools is well known. We are also looking forward to playing against some tough non-conference opponents, such as De La Salle High School. Q: What sets this team apart from previous teams you have coached at Monte Vista? A: This team has a great work ethic and determination.
