The Wichita County Jr/Sr High School track team is gearing up for another exciting season. With a strong group of returning players and promising new additions, Coach Janee Porter has high expectations for the team this year. In this preview article, we dive into the top returning players, new players to watch, and the team's strengths and weaknesses.
The top returning players from last season are the team's eight seniors. Each of them has shown great leadership skills and has been with the team for all four years. They know the coach's expectations and have a strong work ethic. Coach Porter has high goals for these seniors and believes they will make an impact both athletically and in terms of character. These seniors have been dedicated to the team and have put themselves in a great position to have a successful season.
In addition to the seniors, Coach Porter also has a strong group of returning players. Simon Medina, a senior, has had great success in the shot put and discus events, placing at state as a sophomore and junior. Senior Wyatt Gardner is a versatile athlete who excels in relays and shows great determination in practice. Christopher Michel, also a senior, was on track for a great season last year before an injury. Coach Porter is looking forward to his return this year.
Juan Tapia, a junior, is an up-and-coming thrower who has already made a trip to state. Max Whitham, a junior, is a hard worker and excels in both middle-distance events and javelin. On the girls' side, there are also several standout returning players. Sophomores Marcy Baker and Delaney Biel are dedicated to improving the team's throwing events. McKenzie Porter, also a sophomore, is a leader in sprinting events and has great potential when she's healthy.
Breanne Ricke, another sophomore, is a strong distance runner who qualified for state in cross country. Jentri Porter, also a sophomore, is a versatile athlete who excels in the 300 hurdles, pole vault, and 4x800 relay. Junior Michelle Gallegos is a strong middle-distance runner and a member of the successful 4x800 relay and 4x400 relay teams.
Clara Koehn is a junior who is committed to improving in the hurdles, and Samantha Medina, also a junior, is a key member of the 4x100 and 4x400 relays.
