Coach Dan Friese and his staff at Lincoln High School are gearing up for another season of Track and Field. With a strong group of returning athletes and some promising new additions, the team is ready to take on the competition and achieve their goals. I had the opportunity to speak with Coach Friese and get an insider's look at what we can expect from the team this season. The overall goal for the team is to win a league championship and develop their athletes both on and off the track.
This is no small feat, but Coach Friese believes that with hard-work, good health, a good attitude, and strong mental fortitude, the team can achieve these goals. The keys to success for this season will be maintaining a positive mindset and staying focused on the end goal while navigating the challenges that come with a long and grueling season. Returning from last season are a handful of defending League Champions, who are all well-respected and hard-working athletes. Among them are Mallory Kuehl, Maya Hodge, Mateo Biagi, Autumn LaMontagne, and Jessie Smith.
These athletes are special because they are perfectionists and great teammates, who fully embrace the team's culture. They set a high standard for themselves and their teammates, making them essential to the team's success. Coach Friese also has high hopes for a few athletes who have shown great promise in their performances last season. These include Josiah Morales in the 110H and 300H, Daniel Dern in the 400m, Katelyn Lauderdale in the Discus and Shotput, and Kaylee Jensen in the 800m.
He believes that with their continued development, they can make an immediate impact this season. In terms of leadership, Coach Friese looks for individuals who understand the team's culture, are selfless, and can inspire and mentor their teammates. The team's captains are Mallory Kuehl, Katelyn Lauderdale, Autumn LaMontagne, Jessie Smith, and Cameron Dunlap. They are responsible for setting the tone and creating a positive and supportive environment for their teammates.
They are also integral in the overall success and development of the team. Creating a strong team chemistry and camaraderie is also a priority for Coach Friese and his staff. They lead by example and stress the importance of family within their program. The team's captains play a crucial role in this by being great mentors and role models for their teammates.
