The Canyon Springs High School volleyball team is gearing up for another competitive season, and Coach Rita Ramos is ready to lead her team to new heights. With several returning players and a mix of talented new additions, Coach Ramos is determined to bring her team to the CIF and State playoffs. I had the pleasure of speaking with Coach Rita Ramos to get a preview of the team's goals, strengths, and improvements. Top Returning Players: As Coach Ramos mentioned, the top returning players for this season are Cielo Aguliar OH, Peyton English S, Layla Depmore OH, and Ratklao Phromthawon L/DS. These players have proven themselves to be dedicated and hardworking, and their skills have earned them a special spot on the team. Aguliar and Depmore are skilled at reading the opponent's court and placing the ball where they want it. English has returned stronger than ever, showing precise and accurate sets. Phromthawon serves as a reliable libero/defensive specialist who brings stability to the backcourt. Their experience and leadership will be valuable assets to the team this season. New Impact Players: The team also has new players who are expected to make an immediate impact - Tiffany Manasalas, Madilyn Pacheco, and Jonae Carmouche. These players have already shown great potential in practice and possess the necessary skills to contribute to the team's success. Manassas, a powerful outside hitter, Pacheco, a smart setter, and Carmouche, a dynamic middle blocker, will add depth and versatility to the team. Qualities of Team Captains: A team captain is a significant role, as they serve as a leader both on and off the court. Coach Ramos looks for players who possess qualities of leadership, good communication, and a positive attitude. Currently, the team has yet to choose captains, but there are several players who have shown potential for the role. Coaching Style: Coach Ramos's coaching style has not changed much from previous seasons. She believes in pushing her players to give their best effort and to always strive for improvement. However, she is looking forward to a rematch at one of their tournaments, where the team placed second last season. The players are motivated to come back stronger and potentially take the champion title this time. Changes and Improvements: One notable improvement this season is the team's increased focus on mental training.
