As the new season approaches, the Sierra High School water polo team is gearing up for another exciting year. With a young and talented team, head coach Jessica Young is focused on building a strong foundation and fostering a winning mentality among her players. In this article, we will take a closer look at what to expect from the team this season, as well as Coach Young's perspective on the upcoming challenges and opportunities. Top Returning Players For a team that is looking to rebuild, the presence of experienced players is crucial. The Sierra High School water polo team is fortunate to have five returning players from last year's squad. Among them is sophomore Kali McQuoid, who has impressed with her strength and speed in the pool. Coach Young believes that these qualities will take McQuoid far in the sport. Senior Kailee Rose, who brings a lot of smart game strategy, and Junior Taylin Stops in goal, who will be a force to reckon with, are also returning players to watch out for. Along with these standouts, Coach Young believes that all returning players will have a significant impact on the team with their knowledge and strength. New Players to Watch With 10 new players on the team, there is no shortage of talent and potential. Coach Young has her eyes on several newcomer players who could make an immediate impact on the team. Speedster Layne Gilbert, the strong Kennedy Turner, and the all-around athleticism of Riley Osterberg are just a few of the new players who have caught Coach Young's attention. With a team full of fresh faces, there is no doubt that the competition for a spot on the starting lineup will be fierce. Qualities of Team Captains Captains play an essential role in building a successful team. When selecting team captains, Coach Young looks for individuals who show consistency in their efforts, help others during practices, and give 100% to the team. This year, senior Kailee Rose has been given the honor of captain, and Coach Young has no doubt that she will lead by example and help unite the team. Fostering Team Chemistry Team chemistry and camaraderie are vital for a team's success. Coach Young has emphasized the importance of unity among her players and how it is not necessary to be best friends to be great teammates. By supporting and encouraging each other, both in and out of the pool, the Sierra High School water polo team will come out stronger and more unified than ever.
