As the fall season approaches, the campus of Calabasas High School is buzzing with excitement for the upcoming water polo season. With a team of talented and determined players, the Calabasas Coyotes have their sights set on a strong performance in their league and division. I had the opportunity to speak with Coach Youssef Zaaza to get a preview of what we can expect from the team this year. When asked about the top returning players from last season, Coach Zaaza was quick to highlight senior Oli Steinmetz. With his dedication, hard work, and constant pursuit of improvement, Steinmetz has earned a spot as one of the team's leaders this season. As a key player on both offense and defense, Steinmetz's experience and leadership will undoubtedly make a significant impact on the team's performance. But the Calabasas Coyotes have more than just returning stars to rely on this year. Coach Zaaza is also excited about the addition of two freshmen – Cole Winston and Zoli Dalyai. Both players come to the team with club experience and the drive to succeed at the high school level. They are expected to make an immediate impact on the team and help lead them to success this season. Team chemistry and camaraderie are crucial components of any successful sports team. That's why choosing the right captain is essential for Coach Zaaza. This year, Oli Steinmetz has been named team captain, and it's easy to see why. With his strong work ethic and leadership skills, Steinmetz has earned the respect and trust of his teammates. His dedication to the sport and his teammates will undoubtedly help build team chemistry and lead the team to success. Motivation is key to any team's success. Coach Zaaza looks to foster a culture of teamwork and camaraderie by encouraging players to spend time together outside of practice and games. He believes that when players build strong relationships with each other, their performance on the field will naturally improve. Additionally, Coach Zaaza is not afraid to push his players in practice, showing them what they are capable of and motivating them to reach their full potential. As with any competitive sport, preparing for the season comes with its challenges. For the Calabasas Coyotes, the biggest challenge this year is the youth of the team.
