As the fall season approaches, fans of Healdsburg High School's girls' volleyball team eagerly anticipate their first game. After four different head coaches in the past six seasons, there is a sense of hope and possibility surrounding this year's team with Coach Jonathan Nuttall taking the reins. Nuttall, who has an extensive background in coaching and playing volleyball, is determined to build a strong culture within the team that will set them up for success in the future. In this article, we will take a closer look at the team at Healdsburg High School and what coach Jonathan Nuttall has in store for them this season. The Top Returning Players from Last Season and What Makes Them Special When asked about the top returning players from last season, Coach Nuttall had high praise for senior libero Melissa Casas. He has had the pleasure of coaching her during club season two years ago and witnessed her skills as an assistant coach last season with Rancho Cotate. Nuttall is confident that she is one of the best liberos in the league and will be a crucial player for the team to build around this season. In addition to her on-court abilities, Nuttall believes that Casas' leadership, respect from her teammates, and mental toughness make her a special player on the team. New Players Making An Immediate Impact Coach Nuttall is also looking forward to the impact of the new players on the team. He is keeping an eye on players who have strong social skills, are respected by their teammates, and possess mental strength to lead in pressure situations. Although these players may not necessarily be the best in terms of skills, Nuttall believes that their leadership and influence can have a significant impact on the overall performance of the team. Implementing Team Chemistry and Camaraderie Coming into a team as a new coach, one of Nuttall's goals is to build team chemistry and camaraderie amongst the players. He believes that having a strong team dynamic is crucial for success on the court. Nuttall is open to trying different methods to achieve this, whether it's through team bonding activities, communication exercises, or fostering a competitive but supportive environment within the team. Challenges in Preparing for the Season As with any coach, getting the team ready for the season comes with its own set of challenges. However, for Nuttall, the biggest challenge has not been the on-court preparation, but rather the administrative side of things.
