The Canyon Crest Academy Cross Country team is gearing up for another exciting season, and head coach Andrew Corman is excited about the potential of his team. With a strong focus on consistency and building strong relationships, the team is ready to take on the challenges of the upcoming season.
One of the key factors for success this year will be the return of top runners from last season. According to Coach Corman, the team's goal is to get everyone to beat their personal record (PR) and stay healthy throughout the entire season. The top returning players from last season include Katja Dunayevich and a sophomore trio of Luca Caruso, Cruz Espinoza, and Nolan Zerboni.
All of these athletes have shown great promise and have the potential to make an immediate impact on the team. Dunayevich, a senior, was an individual qualifier to the State Meet and placed 4th in San Diego. Her experience and determination will be a valuable asset to the team. The sophomore trio also shows promise, but as Coach Corman notes, their success will depend on their ability to stay healthy and consistent with their training.
When it comes to choosing team captains, Coach Corman looks for qualities such as leadership, embodying the team's mission and values, and building strong relationships among team members. While there are no definitive captains at this time, the team's senior leadership will play a crucial role in motivating and guiding their teammates.
Team chemistry and camaraderie are essential for any successful team, and Coach Corman plans on implementing this through daily events and building positive relationships among team members. He believes leadership comes naturally to some team members, regardless of their title, and he will rely on them to help build a strong team dynamic. Motivation is key in pushing athletes to their full potential, and Coach Corman plans on using team dynamics and senior leadership to keep his athletes motivated and consistent in their training.
The biggest challenge in preparing for this season has been keeping his highly motivated athletes from working too hard too soon. However, with proper strategies in place, Coach Corman and his team are ready for the upcoming season. The team's schedule looks promising, with the first invitational on August 31st at the Raven Invitational. Coach Corman and his team are looking forward to this early meeting to see how the team has progressed and make any necessary adjustments for future meetings.
