Coach Christian Eggert is no stranger to success at Julian Union High School. With a strong legacy built by his predecessor, Coach Cruz, he is determined to continue the tradition of excellence while also implementing his own strategies and techniques to help the team reach their full potential. One of the most exciting aspects of this upcoming season is the strong group of returning players. Coach Eggert believes that this year will be a breakout year for all of his athletes, as they tap into their talent reserves and build their confidence. Some of the top returning players to watch out for include Rylee Bennin, Temet Borello, and Isobel "Izzie" Davis Scholl. Bennin, a senior, is looking to break her personal records and even some school records in her final year with the team. Borello is also expected to make a strong impact, building on his progress from last season and also showcasing his talents in track and field. Scholl, a promising new member of the team, has already shown improvement during preseason and is poised to have a breakout season. In terms of team captains, Coach Eggert looks for players who possess strong communication skills and are respected by their peers for their positive attitudes and efforts. While all team members have these qualities, the final decision will be made by the team themselves. Team chemistry and camaraderie are essential for success in any sport, and Coach Eggert understands the importance of this. Various team-building activities, such as hikes and beach excursions, are planned to help foster a strong bond among the team members. This, along with their small team size, will allow for a more focused approach to individual and team goals. Motivating players to reach their full potential is another crucial aspect of coaching. Coach Eggert plans to have his team focus on their personal, academic, and performance goals while also tracking their progress to help them see their growth and achievements. Despite the challenges of recruitment, the team has a packed schedule with some tough opponents. However, they are most looking forward to the 42nd Annual Southern Cal Invitational, a race they have a lot of experience with and are determined to perform their best. While the team's coaching style may not differ significantly from previous seasons, Coach Eggert is implementing cross-training and a holistic approach to running this year. This includes strength and conditioning as well as building mental toolboxes to help players deal with anxiety and increase focus.
