One of the biggest strengths for the James Lick flag football team this season will be their talented and hardworking returning players. According to Coach Gatenby, the team is young with only four seniors, but these seniors bring experience and leadership to the team. Some notable returning players to keep an eye on are Samarah West, Bella Palomino, Ashly Nieto, Jacklyn Tarango, Carolyn Tran, Azalea Sibaja, Alex de la Santos, and Tara Holmes. These players make up the core of the team and have already shown tremendous growth and potential in the first month of practice.
This year, the team is also bringing in a number of new players who Coach Gatenby believes will make an immediate impact. This includes Kali Caldera, Izkra Gomez, Angie Alvarez, Jewliette Bradley, Daisy Gonzalez, Giselle Chacon, Iris Gomez, Lily Sibaja, and Marlie Haro. These new players will help strengthen the team and bring a new level of competitiveness to their gameplay.
For any successful team, leadership is a crucial aspect, and Coach Gatenby is looking for players who possess the qualities of a strong captain. With over 20 girls on the team this year, there are several players who have stood out for their leadership potential. Some of the players that are currently battling for a captain role include Kali Caldera, Izkra Gomez, Angie Alvarez, Jewliette Bradley, Daisy Gonzalez, Giselle Chacon, Iris Gomez, Lily Sibaja and Marlie Haro.
Team chemistry is a crucial aspect for any team, and Coach Gatenby plans to build a strong bond among his players.
