As the new season approaches, the Foothill High School girls’ volleyball team is gearing up for what they hope will be a winning year. With the guidance of coach Jon Urbano, the team is aiming to make history by winning the school’s first League Champion Title. When it comes to success on the court, Coach Urbano cites communication and teamwork as the two key elements that will lead the team to victory. And with a talented group of players returning from last season and a few promising new additions, the team is well-equipped for a strong performance this year. One of the top returning players from last season is middle hitter Reyanne Ramos, who brings a combination of strength and versatility to the team. Not only can she dominate at the net, but she is also able to control the back row in defense. Reyanne's teammate Marley Nelson is another standout player, known for her quickness and ability to hit over the block with a high vertical and long reach. These two players will be instrumental in the team's success this season. Another player to watch out for this year is Emily Marquez, who has taken on the role of starting setter. Her strong connection with all of the team's hitters and her ability to adapt and change up the game plan will be crucial for the team. When it comes to choosing team captains, Coach Urbano looks for players who not only have a strong presence on the court but also possess a willingness to go above and beyond for their team. This year, he has chosen Analia Curiel and Ariana Torres Licea as his captains. Analia, a freshman middle hitter, and Ariana, a sophomore setter, have already shown great leadership skills and will undoubtedly have a positive impact on the team's chemistry. Team chemistry and camaraderie are essential for any successful team, and Coach Urbano plans to foster these qualities by encouraging his players to dominate the court and step up for their teammates. Senior captains Reyanne Ramos and Isabella Maldonado also play a significant role in promoting team bonding and making sure everyone is working together towards their shared goal. Although every season presents its own set of challenges, Coach Urbano's biggest focus this year is on the mental wellbeing of his players. He reminds them that it's okay to make mistakes and that it's how they handle them that matters. He also encourages them to take a deep breath between plays to reset and refocus.
