Orono High School's Girls Volleyball team is gearing up for another exciting season under the guidance of head coach Abby Perrin. As they prepare to take on their tough conference and section, the team is setting ambitious goals and putting in the hard work to achieve them. I had the opportunity to sit down with Coach Perrin for a preview article to learn more about the team and their upcoming season. Returning for their third season on varsity, Cullen Winter and Amelia Hawley are the standout players for Orono. Coach Perrin describes them as leaders both on and off the court, with a deep understanding of the game, strong skills on both offense and defense and a drive to see their team succeed. With their experience and leadership, Winter and Hawley are sure to be key players for the team this season. In addition to the returning players, sophomore Rachel Johnson is stepping onto the varsity court for the first time this season. Coach Perrin speaks highly of Johnson's skills as a communicator and defensive player, as well as her offensive abilities. With her strong all-around game, Johnson is expected to make a big impact on the team this year. When it comes to choosing team captains, Coach Perrin looks for players who possess qualities such as strong communication, leadership, and a positive attitude. While she has not yet finalized the team's captains, she believes that Winter, Hawley, and Johnson all have the potential to fill these important roles. Preparing for this season has come with its own set of challenges for Coach Perrin. As a new head coach, she has been focused on laying the foundation for the program and instilling a culture of hard work and determination. She motivates her players by setting individual and team goals and celebrating progress along the way. Looking at the team's schedule, it is clear that Orono's girls' volleyball team will face some tough opponents this season. The team's conference and section are known for their high level of competition, which will push the players to constantly improve and play at their best. As a coach, Perrin views these challenges as opportunities for growth and looks forward to seeing her team rise to the occasion. Coach Perrin's coaching style focuses on both the physical and mental aspects of the game. She believes in cultivating a positive and growth-oriented mindset in her players, as well as setting high standards for their physical abilities.
