The Lake Worth High School volleyball team is gearing up for an exciting and challenging season. Under the leadership of Coach Alex Oppenborn, the team is ready to build upon their previous success and create a strong foundation for future years. One of the biggest strengths of the team this year is the return of key players from the previous season. These players have demonstrated their talent and skill on the court and are expected to make a significant impact this season. Karina Velez-Esteves, a Junior, will be returning as a Utility player, bringing her overall skill and knowledge of the game to the team. Danica Long, a Senior, will be a strong presence at the net and is expected to increase the team's blocking numbers. In addition to these returning players, there are also some new additions to the team who are expected to make an immediate impact. Caitlyn Houpt and Cherysh Luiv Fowler, both Sophomores, are new to the team and have the potential to make a significant contribution. Jasmin Martinez, also a Sophomore, has stood out in the position of libero and is already making a name for herself among other teams and coaches. When it comes to team chemistry and camaraderie, Coach Oppenborn believes in selecting selfless, passionate, and driven team captains. These players are expected to not only lead the team on the court but also in the locker room, classroom, and in public. The team's captains this year are Caitlyn Houpt and Cherysh Luiv Fowler, both of whom have demonstrated the qualities of a strong leader. Other players like Jasmin Martinez are also battling for the role of captain, showcasing the depth of leadership within the team. Motivation is a crucial element in any successful team, and the Lake Worth High School volleyball team is no exception. Coach Oppenborn acknowledges that each player has different motivators and works with them to tap into their potential. This year, the team has been focusing on character development and leadership lessons to help the players grow not just on the court but also as individuals. Preparing for the season has come with its fair share of challenges, especially in terms of offensive output. The team lost eight seniors last year, a majority of whom were offensive players. With a young team, the players are still adjusting to a new setter and style of play. However, Coach Oppenborn's transparent and open coaching style has helped the players accept these challenges and work towards overcoming them.
