As the new cross-country season approaches, Coach Randy Marks of Verona Area High School is excited to see what his team can achieve. With top returning players, new talent, and a strong focus on team chemistry, the Wildcats are determined to reach new heights this year. One of the biggest strengths for the Wildcats this season is their talented returning players. Seniors Eli Rindfleish and Nolan Sathoff, along with juniors Aiden Frey, Aaron Yarbro, and Micah Kundert bring experience, leadership, and skill to the team. These athletes have been instrumental in past successes and are highly motivated to take their team to the next level this season. But it’s not just the seniors and juniors that are making an impact for Verona. Sophomores Sam Buttner, Silas Milhans, Sawyer Gehin, and Owen Welty have all shown exceptional potential and will be key players in the upcoming season. Freshman Nolan Dodge has also impressed the coaching staff during practice and is expected to make an immediate impact in his first year on the team. Coach Marks is also excited about the new players on the team. Along with Nolan Dodge, freshmen Zach McAndrews and Parker Hammes have shown they have the potential to be leaders on and off the field. With their dedication and hard work, these fresh faces are ready to contribute to the team’s success this season. Team captains play a crucial role in any sports team, and Coach Marks looks for specific qualities in potential captains. According to him, captains must be unselfish and good role models for their teammates, demonstrating a high level of dedication and leadership. Freshmen Nolan Dodge and Zach McAndrews have already shown these qualities and are being considered for the captain role. To have a successful season, Coach Marks knows that team chemistry and camaraderie are crucial. He believes that training together automatically bonds runners, and to further strengthen the team’s bond, they also participate in team-building activities. With a strong sense of unity and support for each other, the Wildcats are poised for a great season. As a coach, Coach Marks needs to motivate his players to push themselves to their full potential.
