As the new season approaches, excitement is building for the Lee County High School basketball team. And with good reason – the team has some talented returning players and a promising group of newcomers. We sat down with Coach Kirven Davis to get a preview of what fans can expect from the team this year. Without a doubt, one of the biggest strengths of the team this year is its returning players. Coach Davis is especially excited about Kameron Sanders and Braylon Ball, who are both in the running for team captain. These two players possess the qualities that Coach Davis looks for in potential leaders – discipline, both on and off the court, and a strong work ethic. These players are a perfect example of the team’s motto this year: “Discipline, discipline, and more discipline – where there’s discipline, there’s success.” With these two at the helm, it’s clear that the team is in good hands. But the team is not just relying on its returning players – some talented new players are expected to make an immediate impact on the team. Braden Moore, Mathew Hardwick, T.J Williams, and Tre Cori Green are all proving themselves to be strong senior performers. They are dedicated to honing their skills and showcasing their talent on the court, making them valuable additions to the team. Of course, building a successful team isn’t just about individual players – it’s also about creating a strong sense of team chemistry and camaraderie. Coach Davis is implementing strategies to foster these qualities among the team, such as encouraging players to lead by example both on and off the court. Hardwick and Sanders are two players who have already shown strong leadership skills and have been named as potential captains. Additionally, spending time together as a team outside of practice and games, whether it’s through community involvement or team bonding activities, will help to build a strong sense of camaraderie and unity. To push his players to reach their full potential, Coach Davis believes in creating a supportive and motivating environment. This includes involving the community in supporting the team and encouraging players to spend time together outside of basketball. These activities not only help the team bond but also give players a sense of purpose and a reminder of why they play the game. Coach Davis stresses the importance of reminding the team of their “WHY” – the reason they dedicate themselves to the sport and the team.
