As the new school year approaches and basketball season quickly approaches, fans of Olympian High School are eager to see what the team has in store for them. We sat down with Coach Madeline Maglalang for a preview of the team and what we can expect from them this year. First and foremost, Coach Maglalang emphasized the importance of growth and self-motivation for her players. She wants them to strive to be the best versions of themselves both on and off the court. With this mindset, she believes that the team has a shot at winning their league this season. But who are the key players that will lead the team to success? Coach Maglalang highlighted two returning juniors, Alyssa Agpaoa and Alyssa Lewis, as the top players from last season. These two guards bring a combination of skills, with Agpaoa's shifty and crafty moves and Lewis' fundamental and tenacious play. Their coachability and leadership potential make them stand out as key players for the team. In addition to the returning players, Coach Maglalang also mentioned two freshmen, Emerie Purog and Rochelle Burns, who have impressed her during the offseason. Purog, a skilled guard, exudes a competitive attitude while Burns, a strong guard/forward, has already demonstrated leadership qualities. These two young players will be vying for a role as team captain, showing their dedication and potential to contribute to the team's success. When asked about her motivation tactics, Coach Maglalang emphasized the importance of team bonding. She recognizes that creating a strong bond and family-like atmosphere within the team is crucial for success on and off the court. This year, she plans to implement more team outings and events to foster this camaraderie and create lasting memories. We also asked Coach Maglalang if her coaching style differed from previous seasons. She mentioned that this season's schedule is quite diverse, with opponents at different levels of skill and experience. This will prepare the team for their tough league, which includes teams like Bonita Vista, Montgomery, Victory Christian, and Mater Dei. The intense competition in their league will require the team to be mentally and physically prepared for every game. Speaking of mental preparation, Coach Maglalang stressed the importance of the mental aspect of the game.
