It's an exciting time for the wrestling team at Mission Vista High School as they prepare for their upcoming season. With a mixture of returning players and new talent, the team is looking to build on their previous successes and make a strong push towards achieving their ultimate goal of qualifying for the state championships. We spoke with Coach Ignacio Ramirezlazos to get a preview of what to expect from the team this year. When asked about the top returning players from last season, Coach Ramirezlazos immediately named Diego, CJ, and Jael as his standout athletes. What makes these players special is their determination to continuously improve and their dedication to the sport. During the summer, they trained and competed with other clubs, learning new techniques and strategies that will undoubtedly give them an edge on the mat this season. Their commitment and hard work are what sets them apart from the rest of the team. But the coach also acknowledged that some new players have the potential to make an immediate impact on the team. However, with the season yet to begin, he hasn't had the chance to evaluate the new players fully. Many of them are still participating in other sports, making it difficult to fully assess their abilities. Regardless, Coach Ramirezlazos is confident that with the right training and guidance, these new players will be valuable assets to the team. When it comes to choosing team captains, the coach looks for players who possess strong communication skills and who prioritize the team's interests over their own. Unfortunately, due to the presence of many new players, the captains for this season haven't been decided yet. It's a role that requires responsibility and dedication, and the coach is still evaluating which players are best suited for the job. One of the keys to success for any team is creating a sense of unity and camaraderie among the players. To achieve this, Coach Ramirezlazos plans on organizing team events and activities like a pancake breakfast or attending an event together. These activities help to build trust among the players and create a bond that translates to their performance on the mat. The coach firmly believes that a strong team bond can often be the difference between winning and losing. As for motivating his players, Coach Ramirezlazos leads by example. He is actively involved in their training and even participates in their events during practice. This not only helps to push his players to their full potential but also shows them that he is invested in their success.
