As the Tillamook High School girls' basketball team prepares for the upcoming season, many questions and expectations arise surrounding their potential for success. Head Coach Chris Lee reveals the key players, challenges, schedule, and new strategies in this exclusive interview. One of the main focuses for Coach Lee and his team is to improve from last season and become a competitive force in the COWAPA League. Their goal is to reach double digits in wins and establish themselves as a dominant presence on the court. To achieve this goal, the team will rely on their top returning players from last season, including Aubrey Hilton, Vivian (Aunt Viv) Vogel, Adrian (AD) Vogel, Elizabeth (Lizzy) Leon, Jaedyn (Heartbreak) Haertel, and Tatum (The Tiger) Lancaster. These players have all started at the Varsity level and bring a variety of strengths to the team. Hilton, who was their leading scorer last season, has shown tremendous improvement and was named all-conference. She will be a key player for the team as a junior this year. Vivian Vogel, a gifted slasher, and Adrian Vogel, an exceptional athlete with elite-level skills, will also play pivotal roles on the team. Leon, a versatile player who can score near the basket or from beyond the arc, and Haertel, who has a high basketball IQ and excellent passing skills, will provide depth and contribute to the team's success. Lancaster, known for her ability to defend different positions on the court and her dominance in rebounding and blocking shots, will also play a crucial role in the team's success this season. In terms of team leadership, Coach Lee looks for players who exhibit leadership qualities, have a desire to be a captain, demonstrate coachability, and lead by example. This year, the team captains will be Aubrey Hilton, who is a returning captain, and Kloey Cook and Jaedyn Haertel, who are battling for a captain role. These players will play an essential part in building team chemistry and camaraderie. Coach Lee understands the value of team chemistry and will implement team-building activities on and off the court to ensure that the girls see each other as a family. He believes that this bonding will translate into success on the court. Motivation is also a crucial aspect for Coach Lee, and he plans to push his players to reach their full potential through constant coaching and team-building activities.
