As the new season approaches, the Aspire Benjamin Holt College Preparatory Academy basketball team is gearing up to take the court and show the world what they are capable of. I had the opportunity to speak with Coach Austin Allen about the team's journey thus far and what we can expect to see from them this year. Coach Allen expressed his excitement for the upcoming season and shared his goals for the team. His first and foremost goal is to help turn these young men into individuals who will be an added value to society. This speaks to the bigger picture of molding these players not only as athletes but as well-rounded individuals who will make a positive impact in their communities. His second goal is to win the league, a feat that will require dedication, hard work, and a strong team dynamic. When asked about the top returning players from last season, Coach Allen mentioned Truc Huynh, Asa Gonsalves, Jamal Wilkes, and Brandon Cortes. What makes these players special is their tenacity on defense. They are known for their pride in their performance on the defensive end. This team has proven to be a force to be reckoned with on the court, and these players will undoubtedly contribute to their success once again this season. In terms of new players who will make an immediate impact on the team, Coach Allen has high hopes for Samson Helsby and Anniq Ahmad. Their skills and potential have caught the coach's eye and he believes they will make a significant difference in the team's overall performance. With these new additions to the team, there is no doubt that they will continue to build on their successful season from last year. When it comes to team captains, Coach Allen looks for individuals who possess strong leadership qualities and can act as coaches on the court. The two players currently battling for the role of captain are Samson Helsby and Anniq Ahmad. Both players have shown great potential as leaders on and off the court and will help foster a positive team chemistry. Team chemistry and camaraderie are essential for any successful team. Coach Allen plans to implement this by organizing team bonding events and attending various games together. He also assigns accountability partners to help players stay on track and support each other throughout the season. This sense of unity and support among players will undoubtedly reflect positively on their performance on the court.
