As a coach, Brendan Lyons has seen his share of talent come through Addison Trail High School. However, this year's team stands out with the addition of some new players who are expected to make an immediate impact. When asked about these players, Coach Lyons doesn't hesitate to list them off - Luke Smith, Dom Renc, Isaiah Cortes, and Matt Garcia. All four of these players bring a level of experience, skill, and dedication to the court that is sure to enhance the team's overall performance. Let's start with Luke Smith, a 6'1" senior guard who has been a four-year starter for Addison Trail. With an impressive resume of 1,699 career points, Smith ranks as the 193rd scorer in Illinois State History. This is no small feat and shows the level of talent and consistency he brings to the game. Coach Lyons describes Smith as having an "instinct for scoring" and notes that he has worked hard to improve his game every year. His senior leadership and experience will be crucial to the team's success this season. Joining Smith in the starting lineup is 6'0" senior guard Dom Renc. Renc has been a three-year starter for the team and brings a level of athleticism, speed, and shooting ability that will be hard to match. Coach Lyons praises Renc's ability to get to the basket and create shots for himself and others. With his experience and skill, Renc is expected to be a major contributor to the team's success this year. Another senior guard who is expected to make an immediate impact is Isaiah Cortes. Standing at 6'1", Cortes brings a strong defensive presence to the team. Coach Lyons highlights his ability to guard multiple positions and bring intensity and energy to the court. Add in his shooting ability and passing skills, and Cortes is looking to be a well-rounded player for Addison Trail this season. Rounding out the new additions to the team is 6'2" senior guard Matt Garcia. Coach Lyons describes Garcia as a versatile player who can shoot from the perimeter, drive to the basket, and defend at a high level. As a transfer student, Garcia brings a new dynamic to the team but has already shown great chemistry with his new teammates. With his skills and determination, Garcia is poised to become a key player for the Addison Trail team this year.
