Forward - Joseph Flanagan (Sophomore) Heading into the season, the Bishop Amat High School basketball team has set some lofty goals for themselves. With a strong core of returning players and some promising new additions, Head Coach Brandon Ertle believes his team has what it takes to achieve great success this season. When asked about the team's overall goals, Coach Ertle responds confidently, "Our ultimate goal is to win the CIF championship.
We have a good mix of experienced players and talented newcomers who can help us achieve that goal." Last season, the team achieved a 23-8 overall record and made it to the CIF 2A quarterfinals. This year, they are looking to build on that success and go even further in the playoffs. One of the key factors that will contribute to the team's success is their strong performance in the Camino Real League.
Last season, the team finished as league champions with a record of 6-2. This year, they aim to defend their title and dominate the league once again. "Our goal is to go undefeated in league play," Coach Ertle states. "We know it won't be easy, but that is what we are striving for." A key element to the team's success will be their returning players, particularly senior Eliseo Chavez and junior Rayshaun White.
Chavez, a guard known for his shooting abilities, was named 1st Team All-League last season and also earned a spot in the Glendora HS Tournament's All-Tournament team. He averaged 15 points per game and knocked down an impressive 75 three-pointers. "Eliseo is a special player," Coach Ertle says. "He has a great work ethic and is a consistent performer on both ends of the court.
We are counting on him to lead our team this season." White, another talented guard, was named 2nd Team All-League last season. Coach Ertle praises his athleticism and strong defensive skills. "Rayshaun is a player who can have a big impact on both ends of the court," he says. "His energy and determination make him an important part of our team." Aside from Chavez and White, the team also has some promising new additions who are expected to make an immediate impact.
