As the basketball season approaches, Grove City High School's team is gearing up to put their best foot forward. We had the opportunity to speak with Coach Joel Taylor about the team and what to expect this season. With 7 returning seniors and some new players who are ready to make an impact, this year's team is looking strong.
According to Coach Taylor, the key to success this season will be the team's ability to play at a high level and compete in every game. This starts with the top returning players from last season – Addy Hansen and Nora Chesshir. As the returning Point Guard and Shooting Guard, respectively, these two players bring valuable game experience to the team.
Coach Taylor also notes their commitment and hard work as key qualities that make them special on the court. Other players to watch out for this season include Ava Summers, Kaitlyn Boyce, and Mia Bumgarner. With their athleticism, quickness, and leadership skills, these players are also in contention for the team captain role.
While some of the top returning players will lead the team, Coach Taylor is also excited about the potential impact of some new players. Addy Hansen and Nora Chesshir, who were starters last year, will continue to play important roles on the team. Additionally, Addy is a 2nd-year captain, demonstrating her commitment and leadership to the team.
Team chemistry and camaraderie are essential for any successful team. To foster this, Coach Taylor prioritizes team-building activities such as team meals, summer shootouts, and even a team sleepover. The team captains also play a crucial role in promoting a strong sense of team spirit as they lead by example and organize team events such as breakfasts and Christmas gift exchanges.
Motivation is a key factor in pushing players to their full potential. Coach Taylor and his coaching staff do their part by emphasizing the value of hard work and dedication. They also focus on building player confidence and instilling a winning mindset in their players.
As with any sport, there will be challenges and tough opponents that the team will face this season. Coach Taylor notes that their guard-heavy team may struggle with defensive rebounding at times.
