As the new high school basketball season rapidly approaches, fans of the Lakeville North Panthers eagerly await the team's return to the court. With high expectations of competing for the conference, section, and state titles, the Panthers have been hard at work in the offseason preparing for what promises to be an exciting and competitive season.
We sat down with Coach Andy Berkvam to get his insights on the team and what to expect from them this year. One of the most notable aspects of the team this year is the impressive group of returning players. Coach Berkvam highlighted a few key names that are expected to have a major impact on the court. First and foremost is Elayna Boe, who the Coach believes to be the best overall player on the team.
Boe, a senior, has been a standout player for the Panthers for the past few years and her skill, leadership, and experience will be crucial to the team's success this season. Boe's ability to control the game, drive to the basket, and make clutch shots is what makes her special and a valuable asset to the team. Alongside Boe is Aduke Ojulu, a very talented stretch 4 player.
Her size, agility, and shooting abilities make her a formidable force on the court. Coach Berkvam predicts that Ojulu will continue to improve and have a major impact on the team this year. Another player to watch out for is Gracie Winge, who can score at any time. Winge's versatility and scoring prowess were recognized last year when she was named to the South Suburban Conference team.
These three players are expected to be key contributors to the team's success this year. In addition to the returning players, some new faces on the team are poised to make an immediate impact. Coach Berkvam has high expectations for freshman Elayna Boe, who has already received multiple Power 5 offers. Standing at 6'3, Boe brings size and athleticism to the team, and her skills are far beyond her years.
Another freshman making waves is Lauren Robison, who has been dubbed the best shooter on the team. With her precision and accuracy from the three-point line, Robison will be a valuable asset to the Panthers' offense. Lastly, Aduke Ojulu's sister, Sophia Perry, adds depth to the team as a solid wing player who plays her role well.
