My coaching philosophy is to focus on building character and self-esteem in my athletes first and foremost. I believe that by creating a positive and supportive team environment, the athletes will not only excel in their sport but also in life. I also emphasize the importance of teamwork and putting the team above individual performance. This is reflected in our gameplay as we work together to achieve success and support each other through challenges. In terms of training and conditioning, we have made some changes and improvements this season. We have brought on new coaches who specialize in different events to bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the team. We also have two coaches who are alumni of Broadway High School and have come back to give back to the community that shaped them. Our team's strengths lie in our distance runners, as we have the strongest group of distance runners in Broadway High School history. They have already won the State Class 3 Cross Country Championships and we have high hopes for them in the track season. We also have strong returning sprinters and field events athletes who have shown great potential in their events. On the other hand, our biggest challenge this season has been recruiting more athletes to join the team. We are a small team, but we are mighty in power and strong in our bond as a team. We are constantly working on building unity and encouraging each other to reach our full potential. Our schedule for this season is filled with tough opponents and important meets, such as the Handley Invitational, Turner Ashby Invitational, Dogwood Classic at UVA, and the District, Regional, and State Championships. These are the meets that we are looking forward to and working hard to compete well in. As for team captains, we have a mix of athletes who are currently captains or battling for that role. We look for qualities such as hard work, humility, and being a team player first and foremost. Our team captains are expected to lead by example and motivate their teammates to push themselves to their full potential. To build team chemistry and camaraderie, we focus on emphasizing team over individual performances. We want every athlete to feel important and valued, regardless of how many points they score. We also believe in having fun together and celebrating each other's successes. Our goal is to create a positive and supportive team environment where all athletes feel motivated and confident. In terms of the mental aspect of the game, is a crucial aspect for our team. We work on building confidence in our athletes and encouraging them to believe in their talents and training. We also combat anxiety by promoting an attitude of gratitude and focusing on the positives. Overall, our goal for this season is to promote the well-being and success of the entire team. We want to provide an opportunity for all interested athletes to improve their skills and discover their talents. We also hope to see our athletes succeed in the post-season championships at Districts, Regionals, and States. But more importantly, we want to see our athletes grow in character and self-esteem and carry those lessons with them beyond their high school years.
