The top returning players from last season at Smith Vocational and Agricultural High School are Nolen Finnie, Michael Theriault, Trenton Clark, Lucas Leclair, LJ Hale, Aiden Houle, Jaden Caberallo, Jamie Tobin, and Brayden LaRose. These players have all shown great talent and dedication both on and off the field. Nolen Finnie, a senior safety, is a standout player who led the team in multiple defensive statistics last season. His highlight reel plays have made him a force to be reckoned with on the field. Michael Theriault, who will be transitioning to the SAM linebacker position, is expected to command the middle of the defense and continue to be a leader on the team. Trenton Clark, a rising junior, will have more responsibilities on the offensive side of the ball this season after a successful sophomore year. Lucas Leclair, another rising junior, has been impressing coaches with his strength and dedication in the weight room. He is a dark horse for the Super 36 (formerly 48) this year. LJ Hale and Aiden "Beast" Houle will continue to dominate on the offensive line, opening up holes for the team's running game. Jaden Caberallo, who missed last season due to an ACL injury, is expected to make a strong comeback and contribute to the team's success. Jamie "Soap" Tobin, a senior, will be a leader in the secondary and a versatile weapon on offense. Brayden LaRose, a senior, is known for his dominant play on both sides of the ball, making him a valuable asset to the team. As the team continues to grow and improve, Coach Alexander Subocz and his coaching staff have been working hard to prepare for the upcoming season. The offseason has been broken into multiple phases, with the first phase focusing on behind-the-scenes work such as crafting detailed drill books and fine-tuning practice structures. The second phase includes weight training with the help of a redesigned weight room by strength and conditioning coach Nathan Bergeron. The team has also been participating in local events and tournaments, such as the "Vikings Ball" tournament in May and a family BBQ to welcome new freshmen families to the team. These activities not only help develop the players' skills but also promote team bonding and chemistry. In terms of team chemistry and camaraderie, Coach Subocz believes in creating a positive and supportive team culture. He looks for players who display leadership qualities, a strong work ethic, and a team-first mentality when selecting team captains. With the loss of 12 seniors, including standout players Jared Baer, Wyatt Evans, and Brayden Kukucka, there will be opportunities for rising stars to step up and make an impact on the team. Coach Subocz is excited to see competition in the preseason for key starting positions. The team's schedule for this season is challenging, with tough opponents and games that the team is looking forward to. However, the coaches are confident in their preparation and have been implementing new strategies and approaches, including attending clinics, online meetings, and monthly meetings. The coaching staff is an integral part of the team's success and has played a significant role in the program's rapid growth over the past few years. One of the biggest challenges in preparing for this season has been dealing with facility issues. Last year, the team's field was shut down, and the coaches are hoping to avoid any future conflicts. However, the team remains focused on their goals and is determined to overcome any obstacles that come their way. The mental aspect of the game is crucial for the team's success, and Coach Subocz emphasizes the importance of mental preparation and resilience. He believes in building a strong mindset in his players and encourages them to push themselves to their full potential. This includes participating in conventional weight training programs and team-building activities, as well as developing a strong team culture. As the season approaches, the coaches are excited about the potential of both returning and new players. They are confident in the team's abilities and are looking forward to seeing breakout performances from rising stars. With a strong work ethic and a positive team culture, the Smith Vocational and Agricultural High School football team is ready to take on the challenges of the upcoming season.
