Sun, April 6, 2025 at 07:04 AM . North Carolina
With renewed energy and a sharp focus on physical and technical development, the New Bern High School Bears are preparing to make a strong impact in the 2025 volleyball season. Head Coach Taylor Harris is leading the charge with a commitment to growth, fundamentals, and team unity. Offseason Focus The Bears have zeroed in on building strength and speed this offseason. Alongside their physical goals, the team has been sharpening technique and mechanics—laying a strong foundation for efficient, effective play once the season begins. Special Offseason Events This July, the team will attend the Campbell University Volleyball Camp—a key opportunity for both individual development and team bonding. With hands-on instruction and high-level competition, this experience is designed to elevate the Bears’ game before they hit the court in the fall. Players to Watch Two standout seniors are expected to lead the charge this season: Naomi Banks, a dynamic setter, returns as the team’s ace leader and a cornerstone of the Bears’ offensive system. Kailyn Shultz, a rock-solid libero, will anchor the back row and bring vital defensive stability. Both players have put in the work this offseason and are poised for breakout senior campaigns. Coaching Perspective Coach Harris and her staff are taking a collaborative and thoughtful approach. Meeting regularly, they explore new strategies while reinforcing tried-and-true principles—especially a focus on fundamentals. By consistently returning to the basics, they ensure every player has the tools needed to grow individually and as part of the team. Biggest Challenge Ahead Coach Harris believes that unity is the key to overcoming any challenge. “As long as the players work together and not as individuals,” she says, “they are more than capable of handling anything the season throws their way.” That team-first mindset could be the Bears' biggest asset heading into the season. The Bears are strong, focused, and ready to compete. With senior leadership, offseason grit, and a dedicated coaching staff, New Bern High School is ready to make its mark this fall.
