After an impressive run of four consecutive region championships, Midlothian High School Volleyball is set to continue its dominance in the upcoming 2025 season. With a focus on improving critical areas and building on previous successes, the team is working hard during the offseason to make sure they stay sharp and ready for another championship run. Offseason Focus The team’s main offseason focus has been on improving defense and serve receive, areas that are crucial to maintaining consistency and building a strong foundation for the new season. The goal is to get quality repetitions and improve team chemistry to make sure they’re prepared for the challenges ahead. Special Offseason Events In preparation for the upcoming season, Midlothian will be participating in the Tournament of Champions preseason tournament in Richmond, hosted by River City Volleyball Academy on August 29 and 30. This tournament will give the team valuable game experience and help them prepare for the regular season. Notable Additions & Departures Midlothian graduated a starting setter and libero, both key positions that will need to be replaced for the upcoming season. This departure leaves opportunities for players to step up and fill these important roles. Players to Watch Next Season Several players are expected to have a breakout season, with both returning veterans and younger talent looking to make their mark: Dylan Cline (Outside Hitter, Senior) Emerson Combs (Outside Hitter, Senior) Ella Sumser (Middle Hitter, Senior) Lucy Chappell (Middle Hitter, Senior) Mycah Bingham (Middle Hitter, Senior) Cassidy Zalinski (Setter, Senior) Charlotte Lienard (Setter, Senior) Caroline Zezza (Libero, Senior) All of these players are currently playing club volleyball, which should help elevate their skills and experience for the high school season. Mycah Bingham, a younger player, is also expected to play a bigger role this year. Weight Lifting and Fitness The team will begin their weight training and jump training in July. Coach Chung prefers not to start earlier in the offseason since the players are already heavily involved in year-round volleyball, ensuring they stay fresh for the upcoming season. Coaching Perspective Coach Sherman Chung and his staff are focused on improving the team’s ability to finish games and succeed in the playoffs. With a track record of success, the coaching staff is working to maintain the winning mindset that has helped the team achieve its four region championships. Fan Engagement & Community Impact While there is no specific fan engagement during the offseason, Midlothian Volleyball has a strong fanbase that will be fully engaged as the season kicks off. The team continues to enjoy community support, which is key to their success. Biggest Challenges Ahead The biggest challenge the team will face this season is maintaining its edge after winning four consecutive region championships. Coach Chung is aware of the potential for complacency and is focused on keeping the team motivated and hungry for continued success. With a talented roster and a dedicated coaching staff, Midlothian High School Volleyball is primed for another strong season. The combination of experienced players, strong leadership, and a commitment to improvement will drive the team as they look to continue their championship legacy.
