As we look toward the upcoming season, California High School’s football team is deep into its offseason preparations, focusing on building a strong foundation for the year ahead. With a few key changes to the roster and staff, as well as some exciting new additions, the team is ready to face the challenges that lie ahead. Here’s a closer look at how the offseason is shaping up and what fans can expect this year.
Offseason Focus
This offseason, our team’s main focus has been on strength training and conditioning. It’s critical that we build a strong, explosive foundation to compete at the highest level, especially as we prepare to take on one of the toughest schedules in the Bay Area. We're working to enhance overall fitness, focusing on core strength, flexibility, and speed. Our goal is to improve in every aspect of the game by staying strong and conditioned through the offseason.
Special Offseason Events
To help develop our players and build team chemistry, we’ve signed up for several 7-on-7 tournaments. We’ll be participating in the Sacramento State tournament, among others, which will be great for team bonding and will give us an opportunity to develop our skills in a competitive environment. These events are an important part of our preparation, allowing us to focus on passing, route running, and defensive schemes in a fast-paced setting.
Notable Additions & Departures
This offseason, we’ve seen some significant changes to our roster and coaching staff. Unfortunately, we’ve lost a majority of our offensive and defensive line players, which will be a challenge as we move forward. However, we’ve added several new coaches to our staff who will bring a wealth of experience and help us elevate our program. Our new additions include:
Jerome Manos (Defensive Coordinator)
George Zuber (Linebackers Coach)
Pete Quesinberry (Defensive Line Coach)
Jeff Prothro (Wide Receivers Coach)
Brian Musetti (Safeties/WR Coach)
These new coaches will help us strengthen all aspects of our game and give us a fresh perspective as we prepare for the season.
Players to Watch
We have some key returners who are ready to make an impact this season. Quarterback Arjun Banerjee is coming back, and we’re excited to see how he has progressed this offseason. He has been working hard and is expected to be a leader for the team. Additionally, Jhadis Luckey, who had an incredible season last year with over 2,000 yards and 33 touchdowns, is returning. His speed and vision make him a game-changer, and we’re looking forward to seeing him continue his success.
We expect other players to step up this season, especially given the number of new faces on the roster. We’re confident that the players who have been putting in the work during the offseason will make a huge impact on the field.
Weight Lifting and Fitness
A major focus for us this offseason has been the addition of Mark Amedio, our new strength coach, who is emphasizing core flexibility and explosive movements. His approach is designed to make our players more agile, powerful, and better prepared to compete at the highest level. We’ve been consistently focusing on developing our athletes to be stronger, faster, and more explosive—key traits for success on both offense and defense.
Nutrition
In addition to our strength training, we’re also focusing on nutrition. Coach Amedio is teaching our players the importance of proper fueling, incorporating supplements where appropriate to support recovery and energy levels. It’s vital that our athletes understand that nutrition is just as important as physical training in achieving peak performance.
Coaching Perspective
Our coaching staff is preparing for the season by meeting weekly to put together detailed practice plans and watch film of our opponents. We are always looking for ways to improve our approach, but this year, we are continuing with the strategies that have worked well for us in the past. Our focus remains on refining our skills and executing our game plans effectively, while also adapting to the strengths and weaknesses of our opponents.
Fan Engagement & Community Impact
In the offseason, we’re also focused on connecting with our fans and the community. We’re hosting a couple of fundraisers, including a meat sale and a golf tournament. These events are not only important for raising funds but also serve as great opportunities to build camaraderie within the community. Our players and coaches are excited to give back and engage with our supporters, and we look forward to seeing everyone at these events.
Biggest Challenges Ahead
Our biggest challenge this season will be integrating new players into the team, particularly after losing many key offensive and defensive linemen. Competing against one of the toughest schedules in the Bay Area will be no easy feat, and we know it will take hard work, preparation, and strong leadership to rise to the occasion. However, we are confident that with the new additions to our staff and the dedication of our returning players, we will be ready for whatever challenges come our way.
Looking Ahead
Overall, the offseason has been about growth and preparation. We are focused on building a strong, cohesive team that will be ready to face any challenges head-on. With our new coaching staff, a dedicated group of athletes, and a strong work ethic, California High School football is gearing up for what we hope will be a successful and competitive season.
We’re looking forward to seeing our hard work pay off on the field and can’t wait to share the season with our fans. Stay tuned for more updates, and let’s get ready for another exciting year of California High School football!
