As St. Cecilia Academy’s girls’ soccer team prepares for the upcoming season, Head Coach Korrie Hecht and her squad are focused on improving their fitness, refining strategy, and making the most of their transition into a new division. With a strong returning core and a renewed sense of motivation, the team is eager to take on the challenges ahead. Offseason Focus: Strength & Conditioning The primary focus this offseason is building speed and strength through consistent weight room sessions. Staying in shape is a top priority, and the coaching staff is emphasizing a dedicated approach to fitness to enhance overall performance on the field. Special Offseason Events: Pre-Season Play Day While many players are involved in other sports during the offseason, the team is excited to participate in a pre-season play day in August. This event will serve as an excellent opportunity for the squad to build chemistry and gain competitive experience before the season officially begins. Key Players to Watch With a roster that remains largely intact from last season, several key players are expected to step up: Alle Epstein & Ella Thomas – Both rising seniors, they led the team in goals and assists last season and are primed for another impactful year. Georgi Karmo – A junior standout in defense, she will play a crucial role in maintaining a strong backline. Rising Sophomores – A group of younger players who are expected to step into bigger roles and contribute significantly this season. In addition to these individual standouts, the team is embracing an exciting challenge: competing in a new division. Facing unfamiliar opponents and having a structured postseason to compete in has brought a fresh sense of motivation and excitement to the squad. Coaching Perspective: Tactical Adjustments & Defensive Focus Coach Hecht and her staff are treating this season as a fresh start, carefully evaluating player positions and working to establish the strongest possible lineup. A major emphasis will be on possession through the midfield and transitioning to offense, utilizing a disciplined and strategic approach to attacking play. On the defensive side, counterattacks have historically been a challenge, and the coaching staff is implementing new strategies to slow down opponents' transitions. By focusing on defensive shape, anticipation, and tactical awareness, the team aims to improve its ability to disrupt fast breaks and control the game. Looking Ahead to 2025 With a strong core of returning players, a focus on fitness, and a new division to conquer, St. Cecilia Academy is set for an exciting season. Fans can look forward to a competitive and motivated team ready to embrace every challenge and make the most of their opportunities on the pitch.
