As the Lincoln-Way West boys' soccer team gears up for the 2025 season, Head Coach Matt Laude and his staff have been hard at work ensuring the Warriors are ready to compete in one of Illinois' toughest sectionals. With a strong senior class and a focus on tactical growth, the team is aiming to make a significant impact this year. Offseason Focus: Possession & Technical Development One of the primary goals for the Warriors this offseason has been refining technical skills to enhance possession and ball control. By developing these fundamental abilities, the team hopes to establish a more controlled style of play, which will be crucial against high-level competition. Notable Coaching & Roster Changes Last season, Lincoln-Way West welcomed Ryan Decker as a varsity-level assistant coach. With over 20 seasons of high school coaching experience, Decker has brought advanced tactical knowledge that has greatly benefited the program. His influence has been instrumental in shaping the team’s approach and improving player development. The Warriors will also lean heavily on a strong senior class, filled with natural leaders who have been key figures in the program. These upperclassmen will be crucial in guiding younger players and ensuring a smooth transition for underclassmen joining the varsity ranks. Key Players to Watch Several standout players are expected to have a major impact on the field this season: Adrian Ontiveros (Senior, Center Back) – A three-year varsity starter, Ontiveros brings leadership, vision, and defensive stability to the backline. His ability to organize the defense and anticipate opponents’ moves will be vital. Jackson Hirschboeck (Senior, Defensive Midfielder) – Hirschboeck is a key playmaker who simplifies the game and finds openings in opposing defenses. His defensive work rate and offensive creativity make him a crucial component in the midfield. Fan Engagement & Community Impact Lincoln-Way West is placing a strong emphasis on community involvement. This season, the program will host a Community Night, inviting local youth clubs to participate. Younger players will have the chance to interact with varsity athletes, play a small-sided halftime match, and experience the excitement of high school soccer firsthand. With food trucks and a lively atmosphere, the event aims to strengthen the connection between the program and the local soccer community. Biggest Challenges: Competing in a Tough Sectional One of the biggest hurdles for Lincoln-Way West will be competing in one of the strongest sectionals in Illinois. As one of the smaller schools in the group, the Warriors will need to bring their best performance every game to contend with powerhouse programs. However, the team embraces this challenge as motivation, using it as fuel to prove their capability on the field. Looking Ahead With a determined mindset, a strong senior class, and continued tactical development, Lincoln-Way West is ready to take on the 2025 season. The Warriors are set to compete with confidence, aiming to showcase their growth and leave a lasting impact in one of the state's most competitive regions.
