As Beverly High School’s girls’ soccer team prepares for the 2025 season, Head Coach Kristin Simpson and her staff are focused on rebuilding key areas of the squad while maintaining a competitive edge. With several standout returners and an influx of new talent, the team is poised for an exciting season ahead. Offseason Focus: Rebuilding the Defense & Improving Finishing With seven graduating seniors leaving significant gaps in the lineup, particularly in the defensive unit, the team is emphasizing defensive restructuring. Only one defender returns, making it essential to develop new players for the back line. Additionally, the team is working on improving their finishing in the attacking third to capitalize on scoring opportunities and convert strong build-up play into goals. Special Offseason Events: Summer League & Camps To prepare for the upcoming season, the team will be active in a summer league with two games per week. Players will also attend 2-3 captains’ practices and participate in the High School Summer Clinic with Upper 90 to strengthen team chemistry. Additionally, the team hopes to compete in a preseason jamboree at Bishop Fenwick High School, providing crucial match experience before tryouts. Key Roster Changes Beverly High lost key seniors, including Gia Pasquelli (Franklin Pierce), Sami Fogarty (Russell Sage University), Ava Frietas (undecided), Grace Galbreath (Holy Cross Track), and Captain Lily McCarthy (undecided). Despite these losses, the team retains several upperclassmen who will play a pivotal role this season: Clara Kostro (Goalkeeper) Abby Sinclair (Midfielder) Avery Fogarty (Midfielder) Sasha Miller (Midfielder/Defender) Ella Heckman (Midfielder) – Returning from an ACL tear, she is expected to contribute significantly in her senior year. Jaydin Simpson (Freshman, Forward) – A promising new player who could provide an offensive boost. Players to Watch Avery Fogarty – Has put in extensive offseason work and is expected to take on a larger role. Ella Heckman – Committed to regaining full fitness and making a major impact in her final season. Strength & Conditioning: A Key Factor Many players participate in club soccer during the spring, ensuring they stay in form. Additionally, the team will attend fitness and weight training clinics twice a week during the summer, helping players improve their strength and endurance before the season starts. Coaching Strategy: Adapting to a Changing Roster Coach Simpson and her staff are assessing the current roster to determine the best formation and tactical approach based on available personnel. The goal is to identify weaknesses and create a game plan to optimize performance. Community Engagement The team plans to host youth soccer games and run training sessions for younger players. This initiative was a success last year, and both the high school players and youth teams found it highly beneficial. Challenges Ahead The biggest hurdles for Beverly High this season include: Rebuilding the defensive line after losing multiple starters. Finding the most effective formation to match the strengths of the current squad. Becoming more clinical in front of the goal to convert scoring chances into victories. With a dedicated coaching staff, hardworking returning players, and a new wave of talent, Beverly High School is determined to overcome these challenges and make an impact in the upcoming season.
