As Brentwood High School’s volleyball team gears up for another competitive season, Head Coach Sarah Rucker and her squad have made the most of the offseason, focusing on both individual development and team chemistry to keep their tradition of excellence alive. Offseason Focus With many players actively competing in travel volleyball, the offseason emphasis has been on honing positional skills and enhancing individual performance. The goal is clear—develop sharper athletes who are prepared to play at a high level this fall. Special Offseason Events The Bruins are prioritizing both growth and team bonding this summer with participation in top-level camps. They’ll be attending the Vanderbilt Team Camp (July 10–11) and the Lipscomb University Camp (July 21–23)—valuable experiences for sharpening their competitive edge and fostering team unity. Notable Additions & Departures The team bids farewell to standout libero Ava Sulcer, a key piece of last year’s defense. However, Brentwood is reloaded with talent, boasting a senior class featuring five Division I commits—an impressive statistic that speaks volumes about the program's strength and reputation. Players to Watch Eyes will be on Lauren Duncan, Eliza McKnight, and Daisy Oatsvall, each earning All-District, All-Region, and All-State honors. Their leadership and high-level performance set the tone, and their continued offseason dedication signals big things ahead. Fitness & Team Building The team’s strength and conditioning work is ongoing, with a commitment to overall fitness, agility, and injury prevention. While traditional weightlifting forms the foundation, team cohesion is built through group efforts and time spent together off the court. Nutrition While there isn’t a formalized nutrition program in place, athletes are encouraged to make smart choices that fuel performance and support recovery, especially during travel season and intense summer camps. Coaching Perspective The coaching staff is diving into strategic planning, refining systems, and preparing to tailor approaches to the strengths of the current roster. With so much veteran leadership, the focus shifts to maximizing efficiency and pushing the ceiling higher. Fan Engagement & Community Impact Brentwood volleyball continues to invest in its future and fanbase. This spring, the team hosted middle school clinics to help build the next generation of Bruins, and proudly welcomed Vanderbilt’s inaugural spring scrimmage vs. Tennessee on March 7th—a marquee event for local volleyball enthusiasts. Biggest Challenges Ahead Replacing a key defensive player and managing expectations with such a talented senior class are challenges the team is prepared to meet head-on. Staying healthy, maintaining focus, and continuing to grow will be essential as they aim for postseason success. With talent, experience, and strong leadership on their side, Brentwood High School Volleyball looks primed for another standout season.
