Young Program Gains Strength, Sets Sights on Breakthrough Season in 2025
Discovery High School Football is turning the page—and turning up the intensity. After a challenging 2024 season filled with growing pains and injuries, Head Coach Roy Groshek and his staff are doubling down on player development, strength training, and cultural change. With nearly the entire roster returning and momentum building in the offseason, the Titans are poised for a significant leap forward.
Offseason Focus: Experience Meets Commitment
With a team that featured no senior offensive linemen and several sophomores starting in the secondary last season, Discovery was clearly in a rebuilding phase. But what a difference a year makes. The 2025 squad returns nearly every key contributor, including all five starting offensive linemen, and is seeing record participation in voluntary workouts, winter 7-on-7 leagues, and track & field. Coach Groshek notes that his players are “getting bigger, faster, and stronger” with a noticeable shift in buy-in and maturity.
Special Offseason Events: Testing Their Mettle at UGA
The Titans will compete in the prestigious University of Georgia 7-on-7 Tournament this summer—an exciting opportunity for growth, competition, and team bonding.
Players to Watch: Rising Stars Emerge
Several Discovery players are on track for breakout seasons:
Isaac Dukes (’26) – A promising wide receiver with speed and polish.
Mike Phifer (’26) – A towering 6’8”, 260-pound tight end with next-level upside.
Solomon Walton (’26) – Anchoring the offensive line at left tackle.
Kentrell Gibbs (’27) – Young but powerful at the guard spot.
Kendall Sword (’26) – A hard-hitting linebacker making waves in offseason workouts.
These players have been standouts both in the weight room and in team drills, setting the tone for a more physical and disciplined team.
Weight Room Culture: A Program on the Rise
Coach Groshek highlights record gains in strength and participation, particularly among the freshmen, who have embraced the offseason with a hunger to elevate the program. Early morning speed and agility sessions have seen record attendance, and a sense of accountability is beginning to define the culture.
Coaching Staff: New Faces, Fresh Energy
A coaching staff shake-up is underway for 2025, with new additions bringing fresh perspective. The entire staff is set to attend a retreat in early April to align goals and strategies. This will be the largest staff Discovery has fielded to date—yet another sign of growth and investment.
Community Connection: Titans Give Back
Discovery athletes have taken on leadership roles off the field as well—leading pep rallies, coaching flag football games, and welcoming elementary students at cluster schools. This commitment to service has deepened community pride and support for the team.
Challenges Ahead: Staying Healthy is Priority #1
After two straight years of devastating injuries—including losing all three quarterbacks to season-ending injuries by Week 4 last year—the top priority is simple: stay healthy. Coach Groshek credits the strength and conditioning team with preparing the athletes better than ever, and hopes to finally see a full season of continuity and competitive fire.
Outlook: A New Era Begins
With experienced returners, physical gains, and renewed purpose, Discovery Football is trending up in 2025. If health is on their side, the Titans could be one of Georgia’s most improved teams this fall.
