The offseason is far from downtime for the H.M. King Brahmas. Under the direction of Coach Ruben Garcia, the team is charging into the 2025 season with purpose, speed, and high expectations. Offseason Focus: Speed, Speed, Speed “We feel we already had speed,” said Coach Garcia, “but now we are trying to maximize our speed at every position.” Speed work has been the cornerstone of the Brahmas’ offseason training, as the coaching staff looks to gain every possible edge before the fall. 7-on-7 and Offseason Events To enhance development and chemistry, the Brahmas are active in offseason competitions. They’ll compete in the Corpus Christi ISD and Robstown 7-on-7 Leagues throughout May. Additionally, they'll battle it out in two State Qualifying Tournaments—one hosted in Kingsville on May 24th, and another in Ingleside on May 31st. Roster Stability No major roster or staff changes this offseason—just a focused group of returning players and coaches eager to improve. Players to Watch Coach Garcia highlighted five key players who are primed for breakout seasons: Christian Flowers (WR/DB) Damarius Montgomery (RB) Joe Palacios (OLB) John Cason (Safety) Seth Coleman (DT) Each has stood out during offseason workouts and is expected to be a key contributor on both sides of the ball. Fitness & Track Success H.M. King’s dedication to athleticism is showing up in other sports, too. “We broke the school records in several track events this spring, including the 4x100 and 4x200,” Coach Garcia noted—testament to the speed and conditioning emphasis that's become the team’s identity. Coaching Development The Brahmas’ coaching staff isn’t standing still either. “Constantly growing. Researching. Reading. Networking. Attending clinics,” Garcia said, as they continue to refine strategies and prepare for a deep run. Community Connection H.M. King has built a strong bond with its fanbase. “We have a great connection with our community,” said Garcia. “We’re involved in several events year-round,” reinforcing the Brahmas’ role as hometown heroes. Challenges Ahead There are a few key hurdles: replacing the team’s quarterback and their top WR/DB, finding answers for defending the Slot-T offense, and—perhaps most significantly—getting over the first-round playoff hump. Still, with speed as their calling card and strong leadership returning, the Brahmas are geared up to make 2025 a season to remember.
