As the sun rises on another offseason, the Cherry Hill East Girls Soccer team, under the leadership of Head Coach Rachel Tonon, is laying the groundwork for what promises to be an exciting and competitive season in New Jersey high school soccer.
Offseason Focus: Fitness, Fundamentals, and Forward Motion
Coach Tonon emphasizes that the offseason has been all about maintaining fitness and sharpening technical skills. Players are encouraged to take personal initiative, whether it’s through individual training or commitment to their club seasons. This mindset has kept the Cougars focused and ready to elevate their performance.
Gearing Up with Summer Camps and Championships
As tradition continues, Cherry Hill East will host its annual summer camp in late July, providing players with a chance to gel as a unit while giving coaches a crucial look at the incoming talent. The camp is more than conditioning—it’s about team chemistry and setting the tone for the season ahead.
In addition, the varsity squad is preparing to defend its title at the Stockton University Tournament, where they return as reigning champions. It's a confidence-boosting opportunity to test their skills against strong regional opponents.
Roster Changes: New Faces, Big Shoes to Fill
The team says goodbye to standout senior goalkeeper Maddie Schultz, a vocal leader and a key presence between the posts. Her departure opens up competition and opportunities for new talent to emerge, especially from the promising incoming freshman class.
Players to Watch: Strength in Experience and Depth
Cherry Hill East enters the new season with a powerhouse junior class that includes Dylan Kratchman, Ellie Ferdas, Talia Armando, and Jessie Atlas—all known for their intensity, skill, and defensive grit.
Backing them is the core of experienced senior leaders: Lauren Carter, Julia Maher, and Kira Fowler, all four-year varsity veterans, with two of them already committed to Division I programs. Their leadership and consistency are expected to be a driving force on and off the field.
Offseason Training: Running Toward Readiness
Coach Tonon implements a weekly running requirement starting mid-June, ensuring every player enters preseason in peak condition. It’s a simple but effective way to build discipline, stamina, and a culture of accountability.
Coaching Vision: All In for 2025
With assistant coach Ralph Steelman by her side, Coach Tonon is energized about the mix of returning and new talent. “Everyone is on the bandwagon of 100% effort,” she says, especially after last season’s historic winning record—the program’s first in over 15 years. It’s a milestone the team is proud of and eager to build upon.
Challenges and Expectations
With high expectations come new challenges—particularly integrating new players, replacing key graduates, and maintaining the winning momentum. But with a strong foundation, competitive mindset, and a committed coaching staff, the Cougars are ready to meet them head-on.
