Offseason Focus The main priority for Hilltop Football this offseason is improving the overall defensive unit. A major point of emphasis has been strengthening the defensive front, getting bigger and stronger in the trenches to stop the run and control the line of scrimmage. On the offensive side, the team is also working to improve the ground game by building a more physical front. Special Offseason Events The Lancers have been participating in 7-on-7 competitions whenever opportunities arise. These events provide critical game-speed reps, help quarterbacks and receivers develop timing, and allow the defense to fine-tune coverage schemes—all while fostering team chemistry and confidence. Notable Additions & Departures While no specific roster or coaching staff changes were highlighted, the offseason has seen internal growth and development, particularly on the line and defensive side of the ball, which will be crucial as the team transitions into new schemes. Players to Watch Several standout athletes are poised for breakout seasons thanks to their dedication and offseason progress: Julian Moran (WR) – A reliable target with playmaking ability who continues to develop as a route-runner and leader. Alejandro Carranza (QB) – Commanding the offense and showing strong improvement in decision-making and accuracy. Leo Mendoza (RB) – A tough runner with burst and vision, expected to be a key piece in the retooled run game. Damian Moreno (LB) – Defensive leader flying to the ball and showing high football IQ in the new system. Erik Nealson (OL/DL) – Putting in major work in the weight room and on the field, anchoring both sides of the line. Weight Lifting and Fitness Hilltop’s strength program is locked in three days a week, focusing on power-based movements. The commitment in the weight room is already translating to stronger, more explosive athletes ready to compete in the trenches. Nutrition While there is no formal nutrition program in place at this time, players are encouraged to fuel properly and hydrate consistently to match their physical training efforts. Coaching Perspective The coaching staff is hard at work implementing a brand-new defensive scheme and making adjustments to the offensive playbook tailored to the current roster. The goal: maximize the strengths of their athletes and put them in positions to succeed. It’s a flexible, team-first approach aimed at staying competitive and adapting week to week. Fan Engagement & Community Impact The team continues to find ways to stay connected with the Hilltop community and student body during the offseason, including public 7-on-7 events and open practices. With the season ahead, there’s a strong focus on increasing school spirit and community involvement as a backbone of the program’s culture. Biggest Challenges Ahead The biggest hurdle facing Hilltop this season is integrating new schemes on both sides of the ball while filling key roles with developing talent. Building continuity and confidence early will be essential. With a focus on fundamentals and accountability, the Lancers are determined to overcome growing pains and push forward into a strong 2025 campaign.
