The West Branch Warriors are charging into the 2025 season with renewed energy, a focus on strength, and a deep belief in the players who’ve grown through adversity. Head Coach Travis McDowell and his staff have built the offseason around recovery, development, and unity—and they’re ready to make some noise. Offseason Focus: Building Strength and Health After battling through injuries and limited roster depth last season, the Warriors have doubled down on the fundamentals. “We’ve placed heavy emphasis on the weight room,” says Coach McDowell. “Our offseason has been all about getting healthy and strong.” That physical transformation is setting the tone for a team determined to compete with grit and resilience. Offseason Events: Stacking Experience West Branch has lined up a strong slate of offseason events to challenge their players and build camaraderie: Millersville SVS Team Camp in July CPFCA College Prospect Combine in May at Bald Eagle Area High School A series of 7v7s and Linemen events at Moshannon Valley HS, Claysburg-Kimmel HS, Bald Eagle Area HS, and even West Virginia University These camps and combines offer valuable reps and a chance for athletes to showcase their talent while learning from high-level competition. Coaching Staff Update: Veteran Leadership Added The coaching staff gets a major boost with the addition of Coach Bill Hayward, a seasoned veteran known for his work with offensive and defensive lines. His experience brings depth and insight to both sides of the trenches—a critical area of focus for West Branch. Players to Watch: Experience Returns Several key starters are back and ready to lead: Seniors: Coby Kephart (RB/CB) Reed Yingling (OL/DL) Carter Yingling (OL/DL) Stephen Page (OL/DL) Juniors: Connor Danko (QB) Frankie Leskonvansky (WR/LB) Hunter McDowell (OL/DL) This returning core brings leadership and continuity, while younger players will have the chance to step up in supporting roles. Coaching Perspective: Scheme that Fits the Squad Coach McDowell emphasizes that the coaching staff is crafting a game plan that plays to the team’s strengths. “We’ve been working together to develop a solid game plan that best fits our players,” he shares. The goal is simple—maximize what each player brings to the field. Biggest Challenges: Rebounding with Confidence The team’s main obstacles are lingering effects from last season, particularly injuries and limited roster size. But Coach McDowell is optimistic: “We’ve worked with these young men for years and couldn’t be more excited to get started this season.” The belief is strong, and the foundation is set.
