The 2024–25 season was nothing short of transformational for the Santana Girls Basketball team, setting a new standard of success and growth. Key Contributors Junior Harper Diaz led the way as the team's best defender, top passer, and strongest offensive threat — an all-around cornerstone for the program. Freshman Samantha Mora added an instant spark on offense, giving the team another key scoring option and helping stretch the floor. Season Overview Santana far exceeded expectations this year. After winning only five games last season (three by forfeit), the team roared back with 25 victories. The real highlight wasn't just the wins, but watching the players develop their skills and fully buy into the program's culture. Defining Moments The pivotal turning point came early, in the fifth game of the season. After a tough 15-point loss to Canyon Hills, Santana bounced back to beat them the very next game. That victory proved to the coaches and players alike that this group was special. Player Development Seniors Lala Carreno and Kaliyah Cruz stepped up in major ways, evolving into vocal leaders and steadying influences on the court. Their growth made it easier for coaches to execute game plans and maintain a strong team culture. Handling Challenges Tough, competitive practices prepared the team for high-pressure situations. After every tough loss, the girls responded with even greater focus and intensity at practice, fueling their continued improvement. Senior Class Impact This senior group was incredibly meaningful for the program. As Santana’s first senior class under Coach Leflar, they set the tone by embracing leadership roles and modeling the intensity and personality the coaching staff values. Looking Ahead The future is bright. With a young, hungry roster returning, there's plenty of excitement about building better chemistry, improving ball-handling, passing, and tightening up the defense. Big things are on the horizon. Offseason Focus This offseason will zero in on improving dribbling — a key to unlocking even more offensive potential next season.
