The 2024–25 season was one for the books at Rancho Verde, filled with major milestones, gritty comebacks, and a strong foundation laid for the future. Key Contributors Senior Trestyne Nguru was a powerhouse, averaging 18 points per game and earning honors including Beaumont Tournament MVP, Damien Classic Champion, Ivy League MVP, and 2nd Team All-CIF. Junior Semaj Carter was another driving force, averaging 15 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists per game. He collected Beaumont Tournament All-Tournament, Damien Classic MVP, and 1st Team All-League honors. Season Overview Rancho Verde finished with a strong 24-7 record and made it to the quarterfinals of the 2AA playoffs. The highlights: Back-to-back Beaumont Tournament championships First-ever Damien Tournament title in school history Winning the Ivy League championship The tough stretch: A 3-game losing streak at the Tarkanian Classic tested the team but ultimately fueled their turnaround. Defining Moments The 3-game skid during the Tarkanian Classic became the turning point of the season. The team refocused, bounced back to win the Damien Classic, and went undefeated in the second half of league play to capture the Ivy League crown. Player Growth Charles Knight emerged as a major contributor after missing early games due to transfer rules, earning 1st Team All-League. Arion Valentine stepped into a huge role as a senior, doing a little bit of everything and becoming a leader on the floor. Jaden Perry grew into a key starter, showing relentless defensive energy and expanding his offensive game, setting him up for a big senior year. Handling Adversity This team showed incredible resilience. After early setbacks, they regrouped, stayed focused, and elevated their level of play when it mattered most, turning challenges into championships. Senior Class Impact Rancho Verde’s seniors led with class, poise, and ambition, setting an example that future teams will strive to follow. Looking Ahead The future is bright. With key juniors and underclassmen returning — and a strong incoming group — Rancho Verde is poised to be even better next season, with serious ambitions of competing for a CIF Championship. Offseason Focus This offseason, the program will work on getting bigger, stronger, and faster, while sharpening offensive execution, improving team chemistry, and maintaining its elite defensive intensity.
