Few high school programs in the country can match the consistency and excellence of Bishop McGuinness Girls Basketball, and the 2024-25 season was another chapter in their impressive legacy. Under the leadership of Head Coach Brian Robinson, the Villains posted a 27-3 record and advanced to their 15th Final Four appearance in the last 23 years—a testament to the strength, culture, and tradition of this North Carolina powerhouse. Key Leaders on the Court Senior standout and NC State commit Adelaide Jernigan was the heartbeat of the team. Her leadership on and off the court not only guided Bishop McGuinness to another deep playoff run but also set a standard for excellence and resilience. Joining her was junior Claire Sullivan, who had the best season of her career to date and is poised to take on a major leadership role next year. “Claire is next in line to be a great leader,” Coach Robinson noted. A Season of Redemption and Steady Success While the Villains were consistent all year, one pivotal moment stood out: reclaiming the HAECO Holiday Tournament Championship, a title they lost the previous season. “That win seemed to flip a switch,” Robinson shared. “It gave the team more confidence and showed we were ready to make a run.” From that point forward, Bishop McGuinness played with purpose and poise, building on every victory until their Final Four appearance. Growth from Emerging Contributors Beyond the headline names, the Villains benefited from key development across the roster. Juniors Jenna Moore and Morgan Aho expanded their roles significantly, while younger players adjusted quickly to the speed and demands of varsity play. Their contributions added depth and balance to the team’s approach. Resilience in Adversity Coach Robinson was especially proud of how his team handled pressure, losses, and challenges. “They approached every moment—good or bad—with maturity and grace,” he said. “As a coach, that makes you both happy and proud.” Senior Class Legacy This year’s seniors leave behind one of the most decorated legacies in program history: Over 100 career wins 2 State Championships 3 Final Four appearances 4 straight Elite Eights 4 consecutive conference regular season and tournament titles Undefeated in conference play for four straight years More than the accolades, Robinson emphasized their leadership and ability to model what it means to be a Villain. “Their accomplishments are incredible, but their character and example will last even longer.” Looking to the Future With 11 players potentially returning, Bishop McGuinness will bring back a solid core for the 2025-26 season. Coach Robinson is excited not only about the talent but also the opportunity to continue building on the team's values and work ethic. “Our focus this offseason will be on improving the little things—details that matter—and introducing our system to the new players joining the program.” Follow the Villains For full stats and game details, visit MaxPreps.com
