After four consecutive postseason appearances, the Mountain View High School Boys Basketball team faced a rebuilding year, ending the season with only five wins. Despite the tough results, Head Coach BJ Roy remains optimistic about the foundation being laid for the future. Key Contributors and Leadership Senior Bennett Dooley was a cornerstone of leadership, both on the court and in the locker room. Dream Rashad earned praise as the team’s most consistent performer on both ends of the floor. A bright spot emerged mid-season with the arrival of Jadarian Kuykendall, who made an immediate impact. Season Reflections and Tough Lessons Mountain View struggled to find its rhythm throughout the season, falling short of the playoffs for the first time in four years. Despite competitive efforts, the team was unable to notch a region win, with close losses to Collins Hill, Central Gwinnett, and Discovery highlighting the season’s frustrations. Player Development and Growth Several players showed promise and development as the year progressed. Daelyn Wilson improved his consistency at point guard, while Micah McMorris, a junior, battled through the typical highs and lows of growth and showed flashes of his potential. Responding to Adversity Injuries and the absence of a dominant scorer posed major challenges. While the team maintained focus and preparation in practices, it struggled to convert effort into wins, particularly during pressure-filled moments. Senior Class Contributions This year’s senior class gave their best, but faced challenges in terms of experience and consistent performance. Still, their leadership served as a bridge for the younger athletes, gaining valuable minutes. Looking Ahead Coach Roy is enthusiastic about the next wave of talent. “I love our young players and their effort,” he said. “We have a variety of different skill sets to develop.” The offseason will be key to helping this group take the next step. Offseason Focus Areas With sights set on improvement, Coach Roy outlined four primary goals: Athleticism Team chemistry Defensive identity Perimeter shooting These focal points will help establish a stronger, more dynamic team for the coming year.
