“I felt this season was good in the fact that we grew and matured as a team, giving ourselves playoff opportunities and competing against some of the best in the state,” said Hearn. “We took another step in our program’s development.”

Savannah Heihn and Shelby Harrington anchored the offense. The most eye-opening victory came against Princeton, which at the time stood at the top of the district rankings. “Our victory at Princeton when they were the #1 team in the district propelled us into a playoff situation,” Coach Hearn recalled. “It was a statement win—proof of what we were capable of.”
Another critical moment came early in the season: their first district game, played with a depleted roster. Despite being shorthanded, the team dug deep and came away with a gritty win. That victory set the tone for how this team would compete all year—no excuses, just effort.

“Sydney did the intangibles and the ‘hard hat’ jobs that really gave us chances to win,” said Coach Hearn. “She made WINNING plays when we needed them and was never afraid to sacrifice.”
Her willingness to dive for loose balls, set screens, and execute the dirty work reflected the Lady Broncos' team-first mentality. In pressure situations, Sydney delivered with hustle and heart—a quiet leader whose presence was felt well beyond the box score.
Handling Adversity with Resilience
In a district as competitive as 6- 6A, adversity is inevitable. But the 2025 Lady Broncos showed a toughness and maturity that distinguished them from past squads.
“Our team fought hard every night we played despite adversities,” said Coach Hearn. “During tough losses, we evaluated and found a way to respond in a positive way.”
That attitude paid off when the pressure mounted. In previous years, close games or high-stakes moments might have unraveled the team, but not this group. “I believe we handled pressure better than we have in the past,” Hearn said. “Overall, great responses from our team.”

“Our seniors brought leadership in the day-to-day requirement and expectation of what we needed to accomplish as a team,” Coach Hearn explained. “They brought professionalism every day.”
While their on-court performances certainly mattered, it was their ability to model discipline, resilience, and unity that will leave the longest-lasting impact. Their leadership ensured the younger players had a blueprint for success moving forward.

Looking ahead, the excitement around McKinney Boyd’s program is palpable. With many key contributors returning and a culture of accountability firmly in place, Coach Hearn is optimistic about what lies ahead.
“What excites me most is the opportunity to coach a great returning group of young ladies and take the next step in accomplishing our goals,” he said. “This is a very special group who are on the brink of making history.”
The offseason focus is clear: build chemistry, increase strength, and grow closer as a team unit. With individual skill sets already evident, the next phase will be about strengthening bonds, pushing one another in training, and preparing to exceed expectations.
“We’re improving chemistry, getting stronger as a unit, and competing as a family,” Hearn said, highlighting the team’s commitment to unity and purpose.
