Culver City High Basketball 2025 Winter Recap: A Historic Season Marked by Leadership and Tenacity
As the 2024-2025 high school basketball season comes to a close, Coach Ray Singleton, Head Coach of the Culver City High School basketball team, reflects on what has been a milestone year for the program. With a 22-7 overall record, the team posted the most wins in the history of Culver City basketball — a remarkable achievement fueled by leadership, grit, and teamwork.
Despite facing challenges including injuries and illness during the critical final stretch of the season, the program laid a solid foundation for the future with a senior class that made an indelible impact and underclassmen ready to step up.
Key Contributors: Seniors Leading the Charge
The backbone of this season’s success was the senior class, led by a remarkable group of players who brought a rare combination of experience, athleticism, and leadership.
Brothers Myles Singleton and Braylon Singleton were linchpins for the Stallions all season long. Both had been four-year starters on the varsity basketball and football teams, and their leadership on and off the court was invaluable. Coach Singleton praises their relentless energy and determination.
Myles was voted the Most Outstanding Player of the Ocean League, while Braylon earned First Team Ocean League honors. Both have also earned four-ride scholarships to Northern University for football, underscoring their exceptional athletic talents.
Myles led the team offensively, averaging 21 points per game, consistently improving as the season progressed, while Braylon’s steady play on both ends of the court helped anchor the team’s success.
Another senior, Mark Forte, brought versatility and defensive prowess to the team as a guard. Also a varsity football starter, Mark’s shooting ability stretched defenses, and his gritty defense was a key factor in many close games.
Senior Cole Zeno emerged as the team’s “Swiss Army knife.” His willingness to embrace any role, whether coming off the bench or guarding the opponent’s toughest player, earned him the team’s Most Improved Player award. His attitude and adaptability were crucial for the Stallions’ rotation.
Rounding out the senior leadership was Emmanuel Gillam, a steady contributor whose consistency helped balance the team.
Junior Stars: Building the Future
While seniors carried much of the load, juniors Jordan Njoku and William Forte were pivotal contributors and will form the core of the program moving forward.
Jordan, the team’s defensive anchor and second-team all-league selection, is noted for his strength and ability to guard the opposing team’s biggest players. A three-year varsity football player, Jordan’s physicality was vital on the court, and he is expected to lead the team next season.
William Forte, coming off the bench, showcased a tremendous combination of raw talent and athleticism. His growth throughout the year into a reliable varsity player was one of the bright spots of the season, and Coach Singleton expects him to be a key leader in the rebuilding year ahead.
Season Overview: Success and Historical Milestones
Finishing 22-7, Culver City won more games than any previous basketball team in the school’s history — a testament to the dedication of the players and coaching staff.
While the team faced disappointment in the first round of the CIF playoffs, Coach Singleton emphasizes that the season should be celebrated for what it accomplished.
This season was a success by many measures. Our seniors showed tremendous heart and determination, and the program reached new heights.
Despite the playoff exit, the Stallions displayed a level of competitiveness and consistency that signals a strong basketball culture taking hold at Culver City.
Defining Moments and Challenges
The team’s defining moment came in their final game against Brentwood. Unfortunately, the Stallions entered the playoff contest struggling with the flu, with their three best players severely impacted.
“We simply weren’t healthy,” Coach Singleton lamented. “But the way they fought through illness showed their character.”
This game, although ending in defeat, highlighted the team’s resilience and unity in adversity.
Earlier in the season, the team also dealt with the injury of a key starter, yet their resolve never wavered.
“Adversity is part of the game,” Singleton said. “You either persevere or you don’t. Our guys dealt with everything head-on.”
Leadership and Energy: The Senior Class Impact
This year’s senior class brought energy, determination, and a winning mindset every game.
“They set the tone for the program and gave our student body and administration plenty to cheer about,” said Coach Singleton. “Their energy was infectious.”
With 22 wins, this class set a new standard and will leave a lasting legacy at Culver City High School.
Looking Forward: The Future of Stallions Basketball
Though next season will be a rebuilding year, Coach Singleton is optimistic about the players returning.
“I’m most excited about William Forte and Jordan Njoku leading the way,” he shared. “We also have some promising young players like Evan Powell, Demarion Boyd, and Oliver Reeves who will add depth and talent.”
The future looks bright as the program works to develop these athletes and build on the success of the 2024-25 campaign.
Offseason Focus: Strength, Conditioning, and Skill Development
Preparing for next season starts now.
Coach Singleton is emphasizing a rigorous offseason program focusing on:
Increasing players’ strength and size through targeted weight training
Improving conditioning to sustain a high tempo for the full game
Enhancing skill development to raise the team’s overall basketball IQ and execution
“Our goal is to prepare the team physically and mentally to compete at a high level next season,” he explained.
