Molina High School Wrestling 2025 Season Recap: A Foundation for the Future
At Molina High School, the 2025 wrestling season marked the beginning of a new chapter—one grounded in growth, resilience, and the promise of future success. Under the leadership of newly appointed Head Coach Christian Holland, the Jaguars stepped into the unknown with a young roster, a mix of emerging talent, and a hunger to learn. Though the year had its share of growing pains, the program took significant strides forward, laying a strong foundation for what promises to be a bright future.
In his first year at the helm, Coach Holland saw his team face the highs and lows of competition. But rather than shy away from challenges, the athletes—and the coach himself—embraced them, using each experience as a lesson and opportunity to grow.
Key Contributors Set the Tone
Among the wrestlers who stood out this season were Christine Lopez, Selene Rentaria, Carmelo Dominguez, and Steven Ardon. Each brought something unique to the mat, from leadership to technical skill to unwavering grit.
These individuals not only contributed with wins but also shaped the identity of the team. Whether through scoring key points, setting examples in practice, or showing consistency under pressure, they were instrumental in helping the team develop a competitive edge.
Selene Rentaria, in particular, emerged as one of the program’s most reliable wrestlers, also gaining recognition later as one of the athletes who grew into a bigger leadership role as the season progressed.
A Season of Growth and Learning
Reflecting on the season, Coach Holland described it as “decent”—not in a way that undersells the effort or passion, but rather as a realistic evaluation of a team and coaching staff experiencing a year of transformation.
“With a lot of young and new athletes, and myself as a new coach, we gained a lot of experience and growth throughout the course of the season,” Holland said.
This was a transitional year in every sense. From building chemistry to learning the day-to-day demands of a competitive wrestling program, the entire team embraced the process of becoming better, one practice and match at a time.
Rising Stars and Emerging Leaders
While veterans helped anchor the team, several younger wrestlers grew into larger roles over the season—proof that the program's future is already taking shape.
Among those standouts were Osiris Perez, Angel Morgado, and Angelo Larez-Gonzalez. Each wrestler showed marked improvement, building confidence, mat awareness, and leadership capabilities along the way.
These athletes weren’t just filling lineup spots—they were learning what it means to be dependable and resilient, two qualities essential to any successful wrestler. Their progress was a testament to their coach’s commitment to building more than just technique, but also character.
Mental Toughness in the Face of Adversity
One of the clearest themes of the season was resilience. In a physically and emotionally demanding sport like wrestling, adversity is inevitable. But for Coach Holland and his athletes, every loss or injury became an opportunity to learn, not just as wrestlers, but as people.
“Everything was a growing experience,” Holland explained. “I always correlate tough losses or tribulations to life. When you get knocked down, you can either lie there and feel sorry for yourself, or you can bounce back up and try again—with knowledge of how to do better the next time.”
That mindset wasn’t just talk—it shaped the team’s culture. Rather than allowing setbacks to define them, the Jaguars used those moments to fuel growth, slowly building mental fortitude that will serve them well in seasons to come.
A Senior Class That Will Be Missed
As with every season, 2025 marked the end of the road for a dedicated group of seniors. This class, led by team captain Daylan Avila, brought valuable experience, energy, and leadership to the mat.
“There was a lot of senior experience that we will miss next season,” said Holland. “Especially with the departure of our team captain, Daylan.”
Avila’s leadership left a clear imprint on the program, and his absence will certainly be felt. But Coach Holland is optimistic that the younger generation of wrestlers—those who looked up to Daylan—are ready to rise and fill the leadership void.
What’s Next: Passion, Progress, and Potential
Perhaps what excites Coach Holland most as he looks ahead is the genuine passion he sees in his returning wrestlers.
“It’s always a good sign when your athletes are eager to compete and put the work in without you having to bring it out of them,” he said.
That intrinsic drive is the fuel behind any successful program. With a roster full of motivated and coachable athletes, the Molina wrestling team is poised to take the next big step forward in 2026.
Coach Holland is especially excited about having his first full offseason with the team. It's a crucial time for laying down the physical and technical groundwork that will define next season’s performance.
Offseason Goals: Bigger, Stronger, Better
The focus this offseason is clear: growth. Not just in numbers, but in strength, skill, and mindset.
“We are looking to get the athletes bigger, stronger, and better prepared for the season,” said Holland.
Whether it’s time in the weight room, working on technique, or developing discipline and endurance, the offseason will be key in taking the next step toward competitiveness and consistency on the mat.
Building a Culture, One Season at a Time
What Coach Holland and the Jaguars accomplished in 2025 goes beyond wins and losses. They began the hard work of building a sustainable culture—one where effort is expected, improvement is constant, and adversity is seen as part of the journey, not the end of it.
This year was about learning how to work, how to lead, and how to compete, all while laying a foundation that future teams will build upon. With leaders emerging, young wrestlers growing more confident, and a head coach determined to raise the standard, the Molina wrestling team is on a promising trajectory.
And while you won’t find many headlines just yet, the pieces are falling into place. As Holland noted, the passion to compete is already there, and that might be the most important ingredient of all.

One thing is for certain: the Molina Jaguars are just getting started.
