Sheboygan Falls Girls Basketball: A Historic Season of Success, Unity, and Promise

The 2024–2025 girls' basketball season was one for the record books at Sheboygan Falls High School. Under the steady leadership of Head Coach Paul Houwers, the team not only dominated their conference with a perfect record for the second consecutive year but also posted the second-most wins in school history with a 22-4 overall finish. A blend of senior leadership, youthful energy, and a deep commitment to team basketball laid the foundation for a season filled with highlights, growth, and optimism for the future.

Dominance on the Court: Key Contributors Shine

At the heart of this impressive run was senior Addison Schliewe, who turned in a season worthy of the spotlight. Averaging 18 points and 10.2 rebounds per game, Addison was a unanimous first-team all-conference selection and the runner-up for Conference Player of the Year. She led the entire conference in rebounding and blocked shots, and finished second in scoring—a testament to her complete two-way dominance. To top it off, she became the all-time leading scorer in Sheboygan Falls High School history, cementing her legacy as one of the program’s all-time greats. “Addison was a complete player who affected the game at both ends of the floor,” Coach Houwers noted. “She gave us consistency, poise, and set a standard of excellence for the rest of the team.” Supporting Addison was junior Makenzie Schroeder, a versatile force who earned second-team all-conference honors thanks to her 13.3 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game. Equally effective on the perimeter or in the post, Makenzie’s ability to generate her own offense helped ease the scoring load and forced opposing teams to adjust their game plans accordingly. Another rising star was sophomore Mollie Schliewe, who also earned second-team all-conference recognition. Her averages of 10.7 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 3.6 steals per game demonstrated her well-rounded game and instinctive presence on defense. “Mollie is very athletic and reads the game extremely well on the defensive end,” Houwers said. At the point guard position, sophomore Lilly Gahagan played a pivotal role, averaging 9.5 points per game while orchestrating the offense with confidence and control. A strong on-ball defender and a capable three-point shooter, Gahagan’s ability to break down defenses and get to the rim added another dimension to an already potent lineup.

A Season of Milestones and Momentum

Statistically, the Falcons soared in nearly every category, but the numbers only tell part of the story. The team’s 14-0 conference record marked the second straight year of perfection in league play—a remarkable achievement that reflects both consistency and focus. “This was a very successful season,” said Coach Houwers. “Not just because of our record, but because of the way the team played together, grew together, and bought into what we were building.” The team didn’t just win—they competed with poise and confidence night after night. While no specific turning point was singled out, the accumulation of resilient performances, smart adjustments, and trust among teammates helped propel Sheboygan Falls to one of its most memorable campaigns.

Leadership That Goes Beyond the Box Score

This year’s senior class may have been small in numbers, but it made a massive impact. While Addison Schliewe dominated the stat sheet, her classmate Lilly Reinl brought intangibles that every coach values. “Lilly started all 26 games for us,” Houwers said. “She was someone I could always count on to know what to do. She was reliable and would do everything she could to help the team win.” Reinl’s consistency, basketball IQ, and commitment to team-first play helped establish a culture of accountability and maturity—an environment in which younger players could grow with confidence.

Building the Future: Bright Stars on the Horizon

The strength of the 2025 campaign doesn’t just lie in what was achieved—it’s also in the promise of what’s to come. With key players like Makenzie Schroeder, Mollie Schliewe, and Lilly Gahagan returning next season, the foundation remains strong. Coach Houwers is also excited about the continued development of several players who are ready to step into larger roles, including Everly Berg, Abigail Kanios, Brianna Spatz, Aliya Nickolai, and Makenna Mendez. “Overall, the program is in great shape,” Houwers said. “Our numbers are increasing every year, and we have some very talented middle school players in our school district.” The vision is clear: sustain the current success, grow the program from the youth level up, and maintain a culture that develops well-rounded student-athletes who play with heart and intelligence.

Areas of Growth: Eyes on the Offseason

Despite all the success, Coach Houwers remains focused on refining the team’s performance heading into the offseason. “We need to improve our outside shooting as a team and continue to improve defensively,” he said. These goals, while straightforward, represent the team’s commitment to evolving and not resting on past accomplishments. The emphasis on defense and shot-making speaks to the broader philosophy of the program—being relentless, disciplined, and unselfish. With so many players returning and a coaching staff focused on development, there’s every reason to believe the Falcons will return even stronger next season.
