The Mira Costa High School girls basketball team is gearing up for an exciting season, filled with hard work, dedication and a strong team dynamic. So, we caught up with Coach Admin Admin to get a preview of what the team has in store for the upcoming season. When asked about their overall goals for the team this season, Coach Admin Admin emphasized the importance of enjoying the journey. However, their hard work and determination is evident as they have set their sights on winning Bay League and CIF. This shows their dedication and ambition to succeed. Going beyond just winning games, they want to create a positive experience for their players as well. The team has a strong core of returning players, including senior Juju Obrien who has been named Daily Breeze All Area and First Team all Bay League. Her versatility on the court, being able to play all five positions, makes her a valuable asset to the team. Another returning senior, Hayden Lin, is an all-league guard who brings experience and a strong skill set to the team. These two players, along with sophomore Kenia Bohman who is a returning starter, will be key to the team’s success this season. But it’s not just the returning players who are expected to make an impact this season. Freshman Kylee Yeh and sophomore Ava Schauwecker have already caught the eye of their coach. Yeh, who has been playing like a seasoned veteran, is averaging over 5 assists and 5 steals per game and was voted all Tournament in the Palisades Westside Tournament. Schauwecker, who was brought up from JV, has been showing great promise as a 6-1 Center. Team captains play a crucial role in shaping the team’s chemistry and camaraderie. For Mira Costa High School, the players themselves get to vote for their captains, based on respect, leadership and hard work. This allows all the players to have a say in who they see fit to lead the team. The team captains also go the extra mile to schedule events, such as team meals and outings, to build team camaraderie and bond off the court. Preparing for the season has had its own set of challenges, with multiple sport athletes and their schedules to juggle. But the team has risen above these challenges and are gearing up to face some tough opponents this season. They will be playing teams such as Mater Dei and Buchanan, as well as Oak Park, Harvard Westlake and Redondo twice
