As the new high school volleyball season approaches, there is a buzz of excitement and anticipation surrounding the team at La Serna High School. After speaking with Coach Miguel Galindo, it is clear that this year's team is filled with determination, promising talent, and a strong focus on achieving their goals.
When asked about the team's goals for the season, Coach Galindo emphasized their desire to win a League Title and CIF. He firmly believes in dreaming big, working hard, and keeping their eyes set on the end prize with a winning mindset. Leading the team this year will be Senior and Captain, Michael Lopez. As a 6-rotation outside hitter, Lopez brings power and explosive energy to the team's offense. Joining him on the outside is Senior Aidan Leonardo, a natural athlete with a lot to offer. The team's other captain, Senior Maddox Mayorga, serves as their libero and brings leadership both on and off the court. According to Coach Galindo, Mayorga keeps their defense intact and always outworks anyone on the court. He is proud to have these three individuals as captains, acknowledging that they not only compliment each other, but also keep the team fired up.
In addition to the captains, there is another senior who caught Coach Galindo's attention this season. Jayden Northrup is a new player to the sport of volleyball, but his athleticism and impressive skills have already made an impact. Standing at 6'3" to 6'4", Northrup brings a massive block and has the potential to make some impressive swings. Coach Galindo is excited to see how he unfolds throughout the season.
When it comes to leadership, Coach Galindo looks for players who can be a voice on the court and lead by example off the court. Michael Lopez and Maddox Mayorga are two players who have made a great impression on him since day one. Always eager to work hard and constantly seeking improvement, they have shown a great level of dedication and respect towards their coach and teammates. Coach Galindo has no doubt that they were the clear choices for team captains. Team spirit and energy are essential elements for success on the court, and Coach Galindo understands the importance of keeping his players hyped up.
He wants them to push each other, hold each other accountable, and understand that everything is earned. From creating fun cheers to celebrating every play, Coach Galindo intends to cultivate an atmosphere of positivity and motivation within the team.
