The Antioch Comm High School basketball team is gearing up for a promising season ahead. After a successful run in previous years, including winning their first conference championship in 43 years last season, the team is looking to continue their progress and create an even stronger foundation for the future. This season, they will see a mix of new and returning players as well as some changes in the coaching staff.
We sat down with Coach Sean Connor to get a preview of the team's dynamics and strategies for the upcoming season. One of the key factors in the team's success will be the top returning players from last season. Coach Connor highlighted two players who will play crucial roles for the team - 6'3 guard Teddi Wetu and 6'6 wing Jason Lee. Wetu has already set a school record for steals and returns as the leading scorer for the team.
According to Coach Connor, Wetu brings a unique energy and tenacity to the court that sets him apart. As for Lee, he has shown great dedication and worked hard in the off-season to improve his skill set. He consistently finishes above the rim and has been moved from center to wing to take on a more prominent role this season. In addition to these top returning players, Coach Connor also mentioned two new players that he predicts will have an immediate impact on the team - 6'3 guard Mark Render and 6'4 wing Cooper Marabella.
These two players have been working hard in practice and are expected to provide depth and versatility to the team's lineup. When it comes to team captains, Coach Connor looks for players who possess strong leadership qualities, are able to hold their teammates accountable, and can lead by example. This season, the team will have three captains - 6'6 Jack Majerowski, 6'6 Jason Lee, and 6'3 Teddi Wetu.
These players have shown exceptional character and have earned the respect of their teammates to lead the team both on and off the court. Team chemistry and camaraderie are crucial elements for any successful team. Coach Connor plans on establishing this through activities such as team outings and setting expectations for accountability and leadership among the players.
He believes that holding players to a higher standard and creating a sense of brotherhood within the team will only bring them closer together and help them strive for a common goal. Motivating players to reach their full potential is also a key aspect of a coach's role.
